Ok - am torturing myself here... but nevermind...

i paid for an early scan yesterday - according to my dates I was 7 + 4.

First i had a transabdominal scan - and couldn't see a heartbeat - the doctor said that the foetus was only 6 1/2 weeks in size - not 7 1/2... and asked me how sure of my dates I was... which I thought I was as have been ttc for a while now - so have records of everything..

So he then did a transvaginal scan to see better and this time there was a heartbeat BUT the foetal heart rate was slow (he didn't say what it actually was tho).

He basically prepared us for the worst - saying there was only a small chance it would be ok - and am booked for a second scan in 10 days. he said that the fact that I don't really have any PG symptoms was also a bad sign...

So - I just wondered if anyone else had ever had this - and what the outcome was...

iggypiggy - try not to worry too much. It's a good sign that there is a heart beat, and the date they have given you is only a week out, which is the equivalent to such a tiny difference in size.

Having no pregnancy symptoms doesn't mean a thing, many women have no symptoms, and go on to have a normal healthy pregnancy.

I hope all goes well on your next scan.

sorry you are going through this. I can't really reassure you about the dates or the heartbeat, but the doctor was wrong to worry you by saying that it was bad that you don't have any pg symptoms.

As belgo says, pg symptoms come and go and some women really don't have any.

Thanks both. I think the problem is that I did have symptoms and they are disappearing

I lost another symptom today - no longer constantly needing to go to loo!

Iggypiggy, I know you will worry anyway as it is so hard not to, but the Miscarriage Association says, "Research has shown that if you see a heartbeat at 6 weeks of pregnancy, the chances of the pregnancy continuing are 78%." That's a far greater chance of all being well than not.

Also, unless you are categorically sure of the date of ovulation, dates could easily be a few days out. It isn't about when you "did the deed" - as sperm can remain around and about for up to 5 days- but when the egg is released to be fertilised.

At my first scan I was moved back 3 days and at my second I lost another 3, making me only 6+4 when I thought I was going to be either 7 or 7 1/2 weeks, but a hb was seen and then size had increased suitably in that time. My GP was not remotely concerned and said it is all open to interpretation. I am really surprised that a dr would be so negative to you without good (or better) grounds, like a low progesterone, poorly shaped sac or lack of hb. I think the loss of symptoms is also quite subjective and is not conclusive, so please try not to feel too low (I know how hard this is)

Thinking of you x

Thanks pootle

I can't be 100% sure on ovulation date as wasn't using opks but my cycle rarely changes - so would seem odd if dates was hugely out... guess it could be.

I just know it isn't right... can't really explain why... Just realised boobs no longer hurt - no longer need loo all the time, am looking less bloated... just don't feel like everything is ok.

To be honest the waiting and not knowing is the worst - want to fast forward to next week to know where I am.

x
