Early pregnancy pain paranoia

Just this weekend got the BFP so been in some kind of fuzzy scared elation for the last 48 hours. Which has now developed into paranoia so I really do apologise if I am being pathetic.

By my last period I am 4 and a halfish weeks and this is the 4th time I have been pregnant (who'd have guessed from my user name, eh?!). I am 35 now but in my early 20's was leading a somewhat reckless lifestyle and with a guy who forced me to have 3 terminations. Am now with a wonderful man who really wants this, as do I, and I am convinced it's all going to go wrong as I don't deserve to be pregnant. I did have an IUD which expelled in February during my last period.

I've had very mild pre-period like cramping for a good week or more now but all day today I've had pain on my left side of my pelvis which is temporarily relieved if I go to the loo but if I breathe in, I can really feel the pain. Well it's not so much pain but like a mild spasm that comes and goes. I've read that cramping is common and can be like this but I've also read that it is a classic sign of ectopic pregnancy. Even though its a long time ago, I swear I do not remember anything like this in my 3 earlier pregnancies, the last of which was 11 weeks prior to termination. I have had frequent checks and no STD's but I did have a really bad reaction requiring bucket loads of antibiotics when the coil was fitted last year. I have not been to the gp yet to register so have not had the pregnancy medically confirmed. What shall I do? I have no other symptoms (bar the usual sore boobs, naseau, lots of trips to the loo etc)

Gosh, you are probably all asleep now after that mammoth post and twenty quid says I'll have no pain in the morning!!!

I had period pains for about the first 16 weeks. If you are worried specifically about ectopic you need to see a doctor though.

Congratulations on your pregnancy, and try not to dwell too much on what happened in the past - it's too late to change it now.

I'm 6 weeks pg and I've had lots of painful cramping due to constipation .

I've also had an ectopic and the general rule of thumb is pains in the groin is normal stretching, pain in the hip and just below is not. If in any doubt and you get watery bleeding and a continuing +ve test, then please get it checked out.

Actually, scrap that, any pain which you're not happy about should be checked out EVEN if it turns out to be nothing and you feel like a prune!

Hi 4thtime. I am at exactly the same stage as you and also having some cramping pains etc. I have also been worrying about every twinge. TBH I think a lot of them are digestion related! In my last pg (DD now 20 months) I remember having cramps at some stages then nothing for a while all the way through. The Dr said that mild cramps are normal as the uterus is stretching. Having said that you should of course always get checked out if it is something you're concerned about. I've just made my appointment with the gp to confirm the pg and get on the antenatal system so I'm going to mention it in passing then. I'd do that if I were you then you can talk to the Dr and feel like your there for a purpose anyway.

I am also feeling the same! This is my first pregnancy. Got BFP a week ago ? by LMP should be just over 6 weeks but think am more like 4-5 as I think I ovulated late. Saw Dr yesterday as a first appt ? he didn?t even do a test ? just took my word for it and said their pregnancy tests are the same a HPTs so no point really (he?s pretty chilled out generally).

I am having some sort of cramping ? it?s not like period pains, but more, I am just aware of my uterus IFYSWIM. Today am just getting a slight bit of discomfort ? not pain ? very very low down, just above my pubic bone.

Mentioned this to Dr and he just said to ignore it unless it was really severe. He said if you?re going to miscarry anyway, there?s nothing that will prevent it so there?s no point worrying?.That slightly appealed to my pragmatic side but I still can?t help the niggling feeling. I suppose that?s normal! Anyway, I know what you're feeling...

I wouldn't worry too much at this stage.

I had the same pains, again on one side at about 4-5 weeks PG and put it down to the little one burrowing in on one side of your uterus, they have to stick to one side or the other - sounds like yours has chosen the left side! The rest of the pains are just your uterus stretching and expanding I would think.

Obviously if the pain gets more severe, you may need to get it checked out, but normally Ectopic PGs are diagnosed between 6-10 weeks. But keep an eye on any other Ectopic symptoms like others have suggested, but I'm sure that everything is normal.

Congratulations!!

I went to my GP with pain early on and she said it would be too early for eptopic pain, that is between 6-8 weeks. So try not to worry too much.

Gave up as cramping got a lot worse and I am usually no pain wuss at all and went to local A&E a couple of hours later after I posted and had a very stressful 2 days. Scans showed nothing but a large fibroid which I didn't know I had and with the first blood test the hormone levels (beta HCG) were too low to be a viable pregnancy given my dates so understandably I was (as was DP) completely gutted. Blood test this morning was nearly double the HCG as yesterday's so it looks as if I am still, by blood tests, pregnant but just at a lot earlier stage than dates suggest so have more blood tests on Friday to try and fathom out whats going on. All over the place right now

Hi 4thtimelucky

sorry for response, i am 9 weeks at the moment, but i went threw the same thing when i was between 4 and 5 wks, i went to A&E as i was spotting and when i mentioned the cramps/pains they did a urine sample and discovered that i had a urin infection and thats, which explained the relief everytime i used the loo....

I hope this helps alittle.... please dont worry to much, .... and i hope all works out well xx
