Don't go.

I can only reiterate what cazzaben has said as the same thing happened to me.

You would not want to be away from home.

Please don't go.

Ditto the others. Don't go - it just isn't worth the risk. By all means speak to your consultant and ask for further scans to establish the exact position of the placenta, but I would still advise caution. If you DO have a large bleed then you need to be close to a hospital that is well equipped in terms of A&E/Maternity/Neonatal Unit. That's not always a given on holiday and the language barrier could well cause extra problems.

AS the others have said, bleeding from PP can be extreme. I had it from 23 weeks of pregnancy until I delivered by emergency section at 35 weeks. Some bleeds were big, some were small but the one at the end was like nothing on earth - it stopped after a few minutes but I honestly worried that I would bleed out. It can pump out of you like water from a tap and that's very scary.

I'm not trying to frighten you as there's no guarantee that you will get any bleeding. It's just that with PP the risk of bleeding is greatly increased. Given that, be near your hospital and swerve holidays abroad.

Also forgot to mention that if you are abroad/away and you did have a heavy bleed, you may well need emergency c section which is carried out under general anaesthetic followed by blood transfusion. Both myself and the baby had to have transfusions - another thing to think about if you are abroad.

Best to have a scan to check then... They will more than likely do it before 26 weeks if you tell them you are going abroad. If its still low lying then they will advise you stay home.
Just to say too though(sorry) I had scans every 3 weeks and I was told at 33 weeks it had moved right away from my cervix... A further scan showed that it was in fact still Major and completely covering the OS... I guess it depends on who scans you too... x

hi , i'm new to this site. I'm 20 wks and was told that my placenta is posterior and appears to be encroaching the os slightly,( low placenta) i was referred to go back at 36 wks. I'm due to fly out to greece in a week, i'm getting married. i also had a slight bleed 4 weeks ago but was told after having a look everythin was ok but i don't know what to do. I'm due to see my consultant regarding this... any advice?
