Hi,
i love herring roe and bought some yesterday but now wonder whether or not it is safe to eat it. i know that some of the large fish are not good as mercury accumulates in them and this is nto good in
pregnancy but does anyone know about fish roe..

thanks

I have never heard anything about not eating roe. I think mercury concerns are in tuna, shark, etc., def not Herring!
I think we're all too hung up on what to eat and what not to eat.

I agree. I have not really limited other things at all but just thought it is something where toxins might be concentrated.

Yeah - I love herring roe too, but decided I probably couldn't have it, for the same reasons you're worried.

I can't see why - herrings aren't even very big (Mercury builds up over a long time in older fish, small fish don't live as long). If it was a problem it would be identified by FSA as one.
