6wks pg, shoulder, lower back and leg pain...

I am 6 wks pg. I have had some normal pg symptoms, excess tiredness, sickness, headaches, hunger! But I have some pains I am a bit about, reassurances/advice welcome please.

-Upper back/shoulder pain. Really sore tight muscles. Feels like I have been lifted heavy objects for a long time. DH went to give me a back rub and the muscles were agony to touch. Been like this for about 5 days? Along with this, the odd vague pain which feels it might be in lung region, tugging/stabbing pain (stabbing too strong, but slight version of that kind of pain?).

-More recently, lower back pain, on one side, occasionally winds me, odd pain shoots down my right leg into calf.

Pg related? something else? Just a mixture of ailments I would probably not notice if not pg?

Took some paracetamol earlier, but struggling to keep food down atm so not taken any for a while, not really helping anyway.

I spoke to GP on out of hours surgery, very nice reassuring man who said ectopic pg needs to be ruled out.

He asked me lots of Qs, in particular about location of lower back and abdominal pain, got me to see if there was discomfort or tenderness when pressing. Was fine to press.

He said after discussion that he felt it was most likely not ectopic, but said that clearly something was amiss and needed to be checked out, he said that with my agreement, he would recommend paracetamol, and that I visit GP first thing for further investigation.

He also said that if pain worsens, or changes, or I get discharge of any kind at all, call them back at any time tonight. He reassured me I was not going mad, it was a normal and sensible conclusion to make as the symptoms do mean it needed to be ruled out, and was a good call, so to speak!

So, phew!

DH is home, I found some paracetamol and I am now going to catch some sleep.

Thank you for all your support everyone and for kicking me into action, I feel reassured by the GP.

that sounds good. how are you now?

MrsHappy · 26/03/2009 07:40

sounds like a good plan - do get it checked out though today.

Joycey29 · 26/03/2009 10:18

How are you doing? Have you been in today to see someone? Let us know how you get on!

pavlovthepregnantcat · 26/03/2009 12:34

Thanks everyone who posted again.

Saw Doc, he was expecting me! He did thorough check, checked my wee in case I had a urine infection and said it is a viral infection, and the lower back/pelvic pain and very painful muscles is typical of a particular virus on the rounds at the moment.

He also said that the lower back pain may be pg related. He said that in early stages of pg, the womb swells to make room for the feotus to grow, and can swell quite a lot before it moves upwards, so could be pressing against my back, said if this is the case, as it moves upwards it will ease off. Something like that anyway...!

But he thinks its a virus, told me to keep an eye on things, if I get bleeding or pain changes/moves to the front, then go back/call him.

Went to work for 2 hours as I had to run a group, went in after Dr, then came straight home as I am quite uncomfortable today . I am not back in the office until 6 April now, 2 days leave, 2 days training next week. yey!

Pav - you are tiny in the tummy so I reckon its the stretching....my prediction is that no 2 will be bigger than his/her's sister was!

pavlovthepregnantcat · 26/03/2009 23:03

Jimmy - yes, methinks I will be bigger/new baby will be bigger...I am putting on more weight already this time had to lie down to do jeans up this morning ! I feel rounder than i did with dd, already!

I feel like shit today, but spoke to a friend in US who has had major knee surgery and only paracetamol as pain relief due to being pg, so its all relative made me feel lots better!

Please please get a second opinion f you are feeling worse tomorrw
as far as i know the best way to rule out ectopic preg are a scan and falling hgc levles.

But i sincerely hope you feel better tomorrw

MrsHappy · 27/03/2009 08:04

I agree with Ooops. What the doctor has said is reassuring, but I once had a GP tell me I couldn't have an ectopic because my tummy didn't hurt (I have only ever had back pain with both eps). She was wrong, it was ectopic, and the staff at the EPAU couldn't believe it when I told them she had patted my tum and tried to send me home.

So if you start feeling worse at all - or don't improve over a few days- insist on a scan. At the very least it will put your mind at rest...

pavlovthepregnantcat · 27/03/2009 15:05

Thank you. I will keep an eye on things. Back feels a touch better today, but back is still painful. I feel in general a bit stiff and achey, and weirdly a bit more pregnant that I am!

and it will put our mnds at rest too.

I worry about you all
i'm worried about somebody's DH's eye, worried about liasd123's dh, there's a cat weeing blood that i'd like t know how he is... oh, and all sorts
take care and look after yourself, pavolv

pavlovthepregnantcat · 27/03/2009 16:22

pavlovthepregnantcat · 27/03/2009 16:23

Oops you will run out of energy to worry about yourself at this rate!

OP posts:
oopsagain · 27/03/2009 19:56

it's deflected worries.
easier to worry about you guys than worry aout my own shit i reckon

pavlovthepregnantcat · 27/03/2009 20:08

I guess so, but make sure you find time for your own, or make sure you let us worry about you too!

It is feeling like a virus now, my muscles are really starting to ache, my shoulders/neck are stiff and sore, headache, slight temp, feels like I have moved house all on my own, thats how my muscles feel, and I can't get comfy, you know, like figidy not comfy, i sort of have restless legs!!

And I had a large glass of ice cold squash and it soothed my windpipe which I did not even know was sore until I drank!

And I think/worry that this is just the start as its creeping in more and more.

Lower back pain now seems to fit with it all, seems to all be joining up .

But...less abdominal pain, no bleeding at all, so feel less worried about pg and more worried about only being able to take paracetamol for what feels might be the flu or version of it coming on
