Is it OK to use Vagisil ?

I've got a horrible itch that I really want to make go away, but the box says to consult doctor before using in pregnancy.

Is this another one of these over cautious warnings, or should I actually avoid it ? I'm 37 weeks now.

Thank you for your help,

Thanks

I suffered horribly with the same thing during my pg with ds2. I sympathise. It goes the minute you give birth, thank goodness.

My midwife has just vetoed Vagisil. It contains lidocaine and suppresses the baby's nervous system, official clinical advice is to only use it where risk to the mother outweighs that of the child. I.e. not for itchy bits. I'd just used it twice after reading this thread. Bugger. Thank god my jellybean has been kicking today... now I just need to find a new source of relief for suspected thrush, and hope I've not done any permanent damage.
