I've been home dying my hair (for over 15 years!!) and have just read that I'm not supposed to while pg. I've used a dye at least twice in the last 21 weeks - how bad is this?

There are loads of opinions on this one, I went on several websites to check it out and decided to wait until after 12 weeks, and I bought one of those new dyes that only stay on the hair for 10 mins.

I dye my hair blonde - I waited til after the 12 week period and then dyed it as normal... All scans perfect and things are going well so I think it's fine.

I dye my hair, I asked my hairdresser and she said it is fine as it is vegetable dye, but if it was bleach I might wait till after 12 weeks. The home kits should be fine, I coloured my hair 2 weeks ago and am 7 weeks pregnant, if I waited till 12 weeks my hair would be very grey!!

Thanks all for your reassurance - thank goodness I don't have to ditch my dye!

I used a Daniel Field dye. It's got no ammonia or peroxide. It didn't smell chemical at all, yet has covered/blended all my grey. Hair much shinier too.

hi dying ur hair is fine. i'm a hariresser and the only thing i would say is to make sure that u skin test before using any dying products. also if u have any cuts on ur scalp that are open do not colour ur hair till they have healed. i just think of all thses famours people they never go round with big roots do they.

dark colours are supposed to be worse than light ones.

but im' sure it's just a big fuss over nothing - you would probably do more damage worrying about it than just going ahead!

I've also been dying my hair for ages, about 10 years, and I am naturally blonde and dye black. I use semi-permanent dyes anyway (fading makes the roots less obvious!) and i've dyed twice so far and am 18 weeks pg. no problems so far and all going well.

just remember - some people smoke, drink excessively, take crack/heroin/whatever, and all sorts during their pregnancies, a bit of hair dye and the odd bit of soft cheese is very VERY unlikely to do any damage.
