I gave birth to Pulp the first two times and didn't bother with anything the third time. Tbh, I wasn't particularly aware of the music until it was all over and I realised I had given birth to "Babies" and "Happy Endings" which seemed appropriate .

I really wanted music with my last 2. I made a compilation of music (just general stuff I liked) for DS1's arrival but screamed at DH to "turn that pretentious crap off!" about 30 seconds after I said I wanted it on. My ipod ran out of juice with DS2 so I'm not going to bother with DC4. I think I just zone out to much and it was too much of a distraction.
Have you thought about just sticking your fave compliation CD or ipod on & sticking it on shuffle?

I didn't give birth to any music, but did on my way into the hospital (partner and I hitched a ride with an elderly couple when the car wouldn't start / first bus wasn't due for hours). Don't Go Breaking My Heart courtesy of Elton John and Kiki Dee was on the stereo and we had a high old time singing along to it to distract me from my contractions and burgeoning compulsion to push. We got to the hospital at 8:10am, started pushing at half past and I had my 9lb 8.5oz son 12 minutes later.

In terms of mood enhancement and pain relief I can only recommend it, and highly. High five, Elton.

don't do it, I can't listen to corrine bailey ray or james johnson now, great birth but completely associate music with being in labour not something I can put on now to chill out to! didn't bother with anything for ds2 (home birth)

did have stack of dvd's for early labour which I'd recommend, crap all on telly at 2am

I loved having music on and it hasn't put me off hearing the albums /artists

with dd I listened to sigur ros - o album

with ds it was bat for lashes and goldfrapp - felt mountain. And the hypnobirthing cd.

This was all etheral, soundscapey music. I also took Boards of Canada, Cocteau Twins and some heavy stuff in case I wanted to shout along to someat and some poppy stuff er for the uplift factor And in case soundscapes got on my tits! But as it was it suited very well

take a selection. Maybe it will be a good ancompaniment to yr birth, maybe it will not even register or make you really cross. You won't really know till the time. All the best
