Me too - several times during pregnancy!

Twiglett · 19/04/2005 21:18

why are you embarrassed - its a yeast infection not an STD

I've got it at the moment and I'm not even preggers

natural yogurt helps too

Toothache · 19/04/2005 21:19

JM - God I've had thrush soooooooooo many times. My Mum was very prone to it too!! Don't worry about it and certainly don't be embarassed.... just try not to scratch!!! I remember walking through the shos and walking like a lunatic trying to stop it itching.... and also doing this weird shiffle thing when sitting down at work.... trying to be discrete. It drove me MENTAL... luckily once you get it treated it clears up very quickly.

I've also had it in my throat when I was 20! Now THAT'S embarrassing.

The tablet Diflucan is very good, but it might not be recommended in pregnancy as its quite new-ish to the market.

UnconditionalLove · 19/04/2005 21:20

I had never had it before i was pg. Some people suffer with it alot and its very very common. I first got it when i was about 14 weeks pgs and it was very sore and itchy (sorry TMI). Use the cream it will really help and it will clear up

Toothache · 19/04/2005 21:21

TYPOS! Replace Shos with Shops, and shiffle with shuffle Oops.

expatinscotland · 19/04/2005 21:22

it's totally safe. i not only had thrush, i also had bacterial vaginosis. the immune system can become a bit compromised during pregnancy and the Ph level of the vagina can be altered, making a woman more predisposed to things like thrush infections.

thanks guys... u have put my mind at rest - at least im not the only one! cream is working well - still havent used the pessery tho... too scared!

@jessicasmummy I'm 28 weeks and have had several bouts of thrush so far. The pessary is fine but since you are pregnant you should have been advised to insert with a finger rather than the applicator. Don't be scared, it does feel weird the first time but the relief next day is totally worth it! Put it in before going to bed and wear knickers or pyjama bottoms if you feel self conscious. You want to push it in far enough that you don't feel like you are squeezing to hold on to it! I find it easiest to lie on by back on the bed, and try to relax! You will be fine

lilpeach · 14/01/2019 19:59

Just what highlandteajenny said! Don't be scared to do it because it's much better to nip it in the bud rather than just use the cream and it get worse. It's recommended to use your finger rather than use the applicator when you're pregnant so that you don't get it too near to your cervix (i believe!).
I'm 8 weeks and only just starting to get over my first bout of thrush. I read that your hormones create a suitable environment for thrush so it happens to us more. So don't worry chick :)

Don’t be embarrassed it’s so normal! I’ve had thrush so many times I’ve lost count! The pessaries are great they really help, don’t be afraid to use it. You don’t feel it once it’s in or anything and you’ll feel much better after a day or two x

loubluee · 14/01/2019 21:29

It’s normal OP, I still get it now and then even though I’m not pregnant. Actually my teenage son had it last week (now that was embarrassing for him showing his mum his willy). Seriously I don’t know a friend who’s never had it. It’s that common. Oh and sometimes baby can get it in their mouth and you can get it on your nipple (as I found out from ds2 when he was breast feeding!)
