cant take gaviscon with iron tablets?? what do i do?

i started on double iron today as im anaemic, but the label says not to take indigestion remedies, i suffer from really bad heartburn, ive actually cried with the pain of it, so what do i do now. i have tried to soothe the heartburn without taking any remedies but it just doesnt work. is there nothing i can take?

doesn't it mean at the same time? i would take both personally - i'm suffering from terrible heartburn - it's hell - I couldnt survive without Gaviscon! have been put on iron tablets too and have been taking both

I drink about half a gallon of Gaviscon Advance a day, plus ranitidine tablets to prevent too much acid plus two sachets of Spatone dissolved in orange juice for anaemia - no ill effects felt and both seem to be working well. Had 29 week scan the other week and baby is fine as is placenta.

The doctor is prescribing me both iron tablets and the Gaviscon simultaneously at the mo so if there was something drastically wrong with taking them together I'm sure she would have mentioned it!

Why don't you check with your midwife/doc but am sure its fine.

thanks for responses, i just wanted to check that i wasnt going to cause some chemical explosion in my tummy, i'll continue taking gaviscon as and when needed. thanks again.

I think it's a matter of the iron not being absorbed with Gaviscon, like caffeine. So best not to take together, but leave say an hour gap?
