Hi,

I have had the Mirena in for 18 months and it has been bliss, no periods, no PMT nothing, just good old me!!!!!!

However since Monday I have had PG symtoms that exactly match my first pregnancy. Did a PG test on Monday that was Negative, but the symptoms have worsened each day since.

Have a Drs appointment tomorrow but just wondered if anyone has any comments or advice.

Is really weird, have nausea, sickness, abdominal cramps, peeing, tender breasts, emotional outbursts, and an appetite of a horse!!!!

Help please

Hi, this might not be what you want to hear but one of my best friends is pg and she had the mirena, so it can happen. Not sure why test would be negative but you do get false negative results sometimes so maybe need to try again?

I think a woman can tell though before the test is done...good luck, hope you're okay.

choufleur · 19/03/2009 20:33

it does happen. happened to me 2 days before christmas.

the only reason i knew was because my boobs were killing me so i did a pregnancy test to reassure myself that i wasn't, but i was.

you can get false negatives, but not really false positives.

if you are pregnant you will have to have the coil removed.

hope everything is ok

Thanks for responses.

Not sure what I want really. I am very happy and life is just settling down. I have 1 boy and 1 girl already in a 3 bed house and have just started childminding which is going brilliantly.

My DH was 1 of 3 as was everyone of his family (mum, dad, grandparents etc) and think he didn't want the same.

However, a baby is a baby and I look at now how much our lives have changed for the better with our children already and think how nice it could be with a 3rd. Hopefully may find out today.

Choufleur, did they take out the coil successfully?

Hi
I had a mirena coil put in feb last year and had a lot of pain from it. Have had them in the past with no problems. Was still getting fairly heavy periods etc. Felt preg at the beginning of August 08 and got a BFP. Had an uss at 6 weeks and no sign of mirena. General opinion is that it must have been expelled, maybe during AF.
Now 34 weeks. DH very against having another DC, to the point that we have separated and am now single. Still I am happy that did not agree to terminate the pregnancy and can't wait for LO to arrive

choufleur · 20/03/2009 19:23

how did it go at the doctor enthusia?

the coil came out but i miscarried -which could have been because of taking it out, or any other reason.

I'm back on the combined pill now.

Enthusia · 20/03/2009 19:45

Dr says she can't tell anything. The coil is still there, it seems to be in the right place and my cervix is the right colour for not being pregnant!

Did another pg test this morning, that was negative as well. She wants me to see how I go over the weekend. If the cramping gets bad I need to go to our local hospital.

I feel better tonight, but was rough during the day. It is just so strange. By the symtoms I'd put money on being pregnant it is excatly the same as my first pregnancy. Just got to see how it goes.

Sorry about your MC Choufleur, that isn't nice no matter what the crcumstances. Hope the pill works out for you now.

I had these sympotoms most months with the mirena coil, and done a lot of home tests. Amongest many other symptoms I had it taken out 2 moths ago and swapped for one with no hormones. Feel so much better already!

memoo · 21/03/2009 10:48

Please make sure they do check you out properly.

4 years ago I had the mirena. I had symptoms of pregnancy but kept getting neg prg test. I kept getting mild pains and then spotting.

Hospital kept sending me home. 2 weeks after it all started I was rushed back to hospital. I had been pregnant all along. It was ectopic and had ruptured. I nearly died.

Mirena was still in the right place, had it removed a week after surgery

Feeling ok tonight, the only thing bothering me (funily enough) Is the fact I am having ups and downs in terms of emotions. I have realised that I have been very neutral emotionally since having the Mirena and since last weekend I hav been all over the place.

Am considering having it out, despite lack of periods (bliss) as I have no sex drive anymore and no emotions.

MeMoo, that is not good at all. I take it you are ok. Did you have any signs such as severe cramping that pointed to an ectopic pregnancy? It has crossed my mind! It is as if healthcare professionals see the Mirena as a dead cert against pregnancy and that you must be mad to even think it.

Reality, oohh good luck to you to, let me know. I do feel it is all in my head at the moment as sometimes I feel really odd, sick, crampy and then others I am absolutely fine!!

My sex drive definately went down.

I had a very early scan, at my (very good) GPs insistence, and the chance of ectopic is apparently significantly increased, albeit still tiny.

I wouldn't have another one fitted now.

cazzaben · 22/03/2009 21:47

I think i'm a little worried now...
I had a Mirena fitted on 16th March... No problems yet but I guess its only been 6 days!!!
I've been told that I shouldn't risk getting pregnant again
God knows what I would do if I found out I was pregnant...
Loves to everyone xx

cazzaben · 22/03/2009 22:13

Oh and just a quick question.... Did anyone else or know of anyone who got really spotty with having the Mirena fitted???
I've only had it 6 days but I'm just as spotty as I was when I was 15!!!!!!
They had been gone for years but have decided to rear their ugly heads!!!
Help!!!
xx

Oh good lord, I am in a similar situation, I've had my coil fitted nearly 9mths and I only just stopped having my periods 3mths ago..problem is other than mood swings I am now suffering with the most horrific pains in my nipples & breasts that when I pick up my 19mth old and she brushes against them I could cry. I had my 1st one removed a few years ago as it embedded in my womb so was useless..luckily I didn't fall pregnant..am very worried as if this one has I could be pregnant and will face all sorts of problems as I don't believe in abortions, my 19mth old having major surgery this month, I was diagnosed with bells palsy recently..and so on...help.x

fettle · 05/05/2009 10:15

just to add. I had mirena fitted last may and had pg symptoms pretty much constantly. Nausea , sore boobs etc. Had to have it out earlier this year as it was turning me loopy. Mood swings and panic attacks. Terrifying losing control like that. Anyway wasn't pg but hormones were obviously mimicking pg symptoms.

However it is possible to get pg rarely with one in and it is best to rule out ectopic asap. Unfortunately no contraception is 100% reliable! (except abstinance!)

I had my mirena coil fitted just over two years ago and is still in. I have 2 children, the youngest is two and i fell pregnant on the coil (not mirena). My question is my period is now 6 days late. i have done a few pregnancy test which all came back negative, however i feel pregnant. Could i just be imaging this or is there a chance and the the hcg levels just arn't high enough yet??

watersprite · 04/04/2010 18:05

Hello ALL,

I had the mirena over a year ago now and constantly thought I was pregnant, sore boobs, boobs went biggers too, tired all the time, cramps, headaches.

Some days I couldn't fuction at all, in the end doc had a look and couldn't find it so was sent to gyna ward. Took 2 staff nurses at pulling to try and remove it but couldn't. In end had a scan and was told it had migrated and connect itself to the wall of my womb. Plus they found a cyst and said that it had burst and was causeing all of the problems. Got it removed under a genral.

kcampbell · 09/09/2012 22:10

I've had the mirena coil in for 2.5 years, lately been having mood swings, constantly tired, regardless of how much sleep i get. Have a 6 year old daughter, and tbh, a baby wasnt in my plans anytime soon. No sickness like i had in my first pregnancy, however, the pains in my stomach and sides are similar, and i felt like i had pulled a muscle in my rib area last week. Have taken several pregnancy tests which have all came back negative, so unsure what to think. Any ideas?

Genna26 · 10/09/2013 22:02

SHRM · 10/03/2019 13:17

Hi I’m new on here I could really do with some advise please. I have had a mirena coil in for over 4 years but 2 weeks ago I had to have an examination for something else and they said they couldn’t find the strings. I have always had a light period every month but this month I’ve not had a period and I’m days late. I have pulling pains and some pain in my abdomen. I have itchy nipples tender breasts. I’m going to the toilet a little more than normal. Now I don’t know if some of these symptoms I’m bringing on myself because I’m freaking out. I’ve got 2 children so feel like I know that pregnancy feeling (that feeling in your belly) I’ve done 2 negative pregnancy tests. Not sure if I can be or not..! Can anyone give me any advise from experience please ? Thanks
