Hi,

I had an elective section with my DS as he was breech.
I'm now 36 weeks with my second and my midwife all the way through this pregnancy has been adament that I will not be allowed to go over my dates or been induced as I have had a section before, and they wouldn't do anything to risk rupturing the scar.
I saw my consultant yesterday who lo and behold said yep.. I can go to 41 weeks and then they will decide weather I can be induced or not.... hmmmmmm
Fair enough I trust the consultant over the midwife! But ooooh don't they like to confuse you!
Plus i've had it in my head that baby won't be late now it could be!!!!!!
Just a bit of a rant really...
Thanks for listening!

Hi sarah,

I'm about to go for a VBAC with my second, so am in the same position as you. It depends on where you are and who your consultant is, but on the whole they prefer not to induce you with a previous c-section as it increases the risk of the scar rupturing (it's a VERY small risk, so don't panic!).

Having said that, my consultant is happy to let me go to 40+12 before we go for an elective section, so it really depends on who you're seeing. Only your consultant will know your circumstances and state of health etc.

Your consultant and most importantly YOU have the final say in the matter, so ignore your midwife!

Hope it all becomes clear for you

Hi Sarah, your mw does not sound very in touch with the hospital policy does she? For reassurance I had an successful induced VBAC in October and it was fine. They will only give you about 1/2 the amount of synco in the drip you would be given for a normal induction to reduce the risk of rupture. Hopefully your LO will come along on its own with out any extra help anyway.
