Hi- reposting this with a subject title this time!! Duh!! And what a great subject title it is... [o]

I remember reading on here a while ago about a couple of people that felt a 'tightening' around their bladder when going to the toilet and it was pretty much determined that they will have a UTI. I keep getting this, and achey pain around my kidney area. I can be quite uncomfortable sometimes. This has been going on for about 6 weeks or so now (I am 26+3). I am quite prone to UTIs so I went to see my GP, but he said the sample was clear, and it could just be ligament pain, however, this doesn't feel like ligament pain to me, its more of an ache. Even though the GP tells me the sample is clear, I wouldn't be suprised if I do have a UTI- I am just worried about letting it drag on. I am due to see the midwife on Friday- does that little dip test thing they do pick up UTIs? Or should I insist that she sends the sample off? If it isnt a UTI, what could it be? The tightening after going to the toilet is quite strong, but I dont know if this is normal?!? If anyone could help that would be great!! Thanks!

Oooh I had a sort of painful tightening after weeing - never struck me as anything to be concerned about - just another of those unexplained discomforts of pregnancy...

I think they look for nitrates in the urine - as a sign of infection -if this came up positive they would do another test - to incubate whatever it was in order to find out what antibiotics are best to treat it. But if its negative you are probably clear. I think the midwife's stick test will look for the same thing.

No harm to keep getting it checked out - also testing the morning's first wee gives the best of finding any lurking nasties.

I have this & had my urine checked on Monday (for other reasons) & no sign of infection, so as mrsboogie says I think it's one of the many unexplained pregnancy things. Sometimes it bl**dy well hurts though - I can almost not stand up straight!

Though if you're worried then ask for a uti test to put your mind at rest.

Yes I have this (not every time, I think its usually during/after a big wee). My dipstick test was normal and I don't have any other signs of a UTI. I also think its yet another pregnancy discomfort. Sometimes its just like pressure but can be painful.
