Anyone tried bump support bands?

Warning - moan coming up, skip down for the main point of the post.... My back and hips are killing me, my tummy is massive, rock solid, and feels like its going to explode. Can't sleep at night, can't even hold DD up for more than a few minutes at a time. Wouldn't mind so much if I was 8 months or so, but I'm only 6.5 months Just burst into tears at the thought that there's still so long to go (having an emotional day!).

Been looking for anything that can help, and found these bump support band things. I'm willing to chuck almost any amount of money at the problem right now, but would be good to know if it would be a total waste - anyone tried them?

Sorry for the moan, haven't really got much to moan about in comparison to some, just having a rubbish day.

I had one but abandoned it as it didn't seem to have any benefit!!!!

Sugarkane · 14/03/2009 20:42

I had 1 but it was so uncomfortable I didnt wear it at all, but I must say that 1 looks quite comfy and soft compared to my hard nasty thing, so much so I may give that a try when I get bigger this time round. If u feel so bad give it a try cant hurt can it.

I had a huge bump (ds was 10lbs5, a week early). I was having problems from about your stage when I was playing the viola or singing - I was getting shooting pains up my side. I got some physio from the NHS - and was given what looks like a tubigrip (ie what you'd have on a knee or elbow etc) but bump size - and it really did help... Don't know whether something similar would help for you too!

DorisIsAPinkDragon · 14/03/2009 21:04

I am wearing mine as we "speak" !!

No problems with dd1 but dd2 and dc3( due june!) different story I ache under the bump and so wear it everyday. ( would say you may need 2 if it does work for you one on, one in the wash).

I now don't go anywhere without mine on.

Give it a go....

Alrighty, thanks all, credit card out and will give it a go. Plus the 'belly bra', and maybe the big pillow thing as well (although already surrounded by 6 pillows at night!).

mistlethrush - slightly at your 10lb5, I hope that doesn't mean this one will be so big, hoping for a 'smooth' home VBAC!

Kyte - sorry to hear you're suffering with SPD. I don't know much about it, but I thought the SPD pain was more round the front, rather than back/hips (and probably an awful lot worse than I'm feeling)? Although, I'm already doing lots of your sugestions - pillow between the knees, getting up in the night, naps when I can (because I'm up in the night!) etc. Hadn't thought I might be able to get help with this, just thought it was another rubbish pregnancy thing to suffer, so thanks, I'll def. go to the docs if it gets worse (or doesn't get any better).

I may be a bit late with my suggestion if you have already purchased but I swore by my maternity belt ('Emma Jane Maternity belt'). It was a bit different from the one you linked to and was more like a giant strap of elastic with a velco fastening which you can adjust. You wear it sort of slung under the bump. It was super supportive and I hated the few hours when I did not wear it e.g. at a wedding under a dress as it did alter the natural profile of the bump (made the underside a bit flat). I would start to feel achey after just an hour or so I had become so used to wearing it.

You can buy them new on eBay or Figleaves and I think Blooming Marvellous do them too. Or get a second hand one off eBay for next to nothing then if you don't like it you haven't wasted a tenner.

I had the same one as Toppy, and also swore by it. Was ceremoniously buried with full honours after DD3 was born (OK, I'm joking, I lobbed it in the bin as it was rather manky but it was a godsend.)
