Headaches, ooh the headaches, did no-one else suffer from these, they were agony for the first 16 weeks with dd1 and dd2.

susanmt · 10/04/2003 01:17

16 weeks of morning sickness (No1)
SPD (both times)
Indigestion (both times)
Kidney stones (second time)
Just to fill you in, kidney stones are almost as sore as labour only each 'spasm'lasts about 5 times as long as a contraction. I had them for the 2nd half of my pregnancy with ds and for a YEAR afterwards.
I am not having any more children (though I had always envisioned myself with 3, and I have 2) as my urologist says I risk losing a kidney if I have another baby. Not worth the risk!

Griffy, you've completely summed it up for me... "health, time, money & sanity"

Flippa · 10/04/2003 10:52

The worst bit for me was when my milk came in - the dreaded "day 3" - I was in agony. The afterpains were pretty grim too and trying to feed surreptitiously in public whilst my ds glugged and sucked away noisily was a bit stressful to begin with!

mum2toby · 10/04/2003 10:58

Flippa - isn't it SORE! I had to stop breastfeeding coz I was SOO sore. It put me off totally. I had to walk around with my (fantastically large and pert) breasts on display for 2 days until the milk went away (and my breasts!!!). DP was in awe of them, but if he'd touched them I think I would have punched him on the nose!! Ouch ouch ouch....

..... still doesn't put me off having another though.

Flippa · 10/04/2003 11:12

I dragged DH out that day to get me a bigger bra - it was awful! Only thing that helped was to express and relieve some of the pressure. Had a funny moment when I first expressed - the milk that came out was orange. I had just drunk a glass of orange juice and was wondering whether that was why!!!! But I agree, it wouldn't put me off having another. Reading this and the other thread has made me feel really broody!!!

mum2toby · 10/04/2003 11:23

I even talked about it with dp last night and we have agreed that we will wait until the end of the year. Then ds will be 2.5 yrs old and will be in pre-school nursery when sprog no.2 arrives!! Unless there's a wee accident.

I never thought he'd be SO keen, but I think he's getting broody too. We're going to make sure we save a good amount of cash first.... and don't move house again when I'm 7 mths pg!!!!

Girly · 10/04/2003 11:25

Had an episiotomy, ouch ouch ouch, could not sit for 2 weeks, oh and cracked and bleeding nipples..

Finbar · 10/04/2003 11:36

Nightmare breastfeeding - determined to do it but had several bouts of mastitis - three lots of antibiotics and ended up with massive abcess and an emergency operation! Felt like a failure. The thought of it makes me wince!

Ghosty · 10/04/2003 11:39

La la la la .... not listening ... la la la la .... I WILL have another .... don't care how awful pregnancy and birth were with DS ... won't listen .... refuse to remember .... la la la la la .....

rainbow · 10/04/2003 11:47

Popping to the shops for a minute becomes a morning's outing.
A trip into town involves 3 days of planning.
Feeling like a pack horse, nappies, wipes, spare clothes for ds3, spare clothes, pants etc for potty training ds2, and toys to keep them all amused if waiting ie doctors.

rainbow · 10/04/2003 11:48

i take it you only have 1 ghosty!

rainbow · 10/04/2003 11:51

Can't be that bad I had 3, Rainbow's had 3 and most of you did it again!! After 26 1/2 hours in third stage labour with Rainbow, I told the midwife "It will be better next time around!"

Rainbow's Mum

Ghosty · 10/04/2003 11:52

Yup, rainbow ... just the one ... sooooo didn't want anymore for the first year (horrendous birth ... sick baby ... PND etc) then grew gradually more broody. Had an m/c last year and am now desperately trying for another before the gap gets too big ....
Anyway ... I didn't post this ... I am not listening .... la la la la la

Ghosty · 10/04/2003 11:54

Ah, hello Rainbow's mum ... You tell 'em ... my mum had 4 in less than 5 years and she doesn't regret it (I think ) Mind you she took one look at me and had her tubes tied

mum2toby · 10/04/2003 11:59

My Mum had 4 too.... spanned over a 15 year period!!! Lunatic!

Slinky · 10/04/2003 12:07

DH is having the "snip" in 16 days time

Eve · 10/04/2003 12:17

Hymermesis with 2 pregnanices!! afterwards physically and mentally it takes me a couple of years to recover as I am so run down and have to continue all sorts of supplements and tests to try and recover. Physically and mentally I couldn't do it again!

Agree with the Kidney Stones, I had renal colic after nos 2, and recall lying in the ambulance when the lovely, lovely paramedic was giving me morphine...going I'd rather give birth again!!!

rainbow · 10/04/2003 12:27

After ds3 i said definitely never again. But I am thinking that no 4 might by nice. NO MORE after no4 tho and that's final! for now

Bugsy · 10/04/2003 13:34

I can't believe no one has put this yet: pooing while pushing. I know midwives claim to have seen it 100 times before but I was horrified!!!!
Other minor reasons:
resembling Elizabeth I for months after each baby because of spectacular hairloss and then effectively having a "mullet" for another 5 months
while it grows back
Episiotomy & tearing
sitting on the cheek of one buttock for 5 weeks because of too tight stitching
being stiched
sciatica
pubis symphysis dysfunction
Insomnia from 34 weeks
chronic sleep deprivation
the whole breasts containing milk thing
having to wear wire free bras while breastfeeding
breast pads showing through t-shirts
looking fat not pregnant from 3-6 months

kaz33 · 10/04/2003 13:38

Anal fissure - ouch

grommit · 10/04/2003 13:42

Bugsy - I am sooo glad you added the pooing bit. For me this was the worst part of the whole experience - so humilating in front of dh and hospital staff. I did not know this was common - thought it was only me! THANKS
