Cramping in Early pregnancy

I am 4weeks +2 days based on my ovulation date or 5weeks+4 days based on my LMP date.

Anyhow I am getting sporadic period like cramping. It was worse when AF was just about to arrive and seems to have eased off slightly now my period is officially 5 days late. However last night just after I had an orgasm I had really bad period cramps (this is normal for me to have period pain after orgasm- but not usually that bad)

The cramps usually last less than a minute and there is no blood at all so I am hoping they are just early pregnancy pains rather than a sign of anything more ominous.

Can I just have some reassurance this is normal?

Ta
P.S Perhaps I should avoid orgasms? Sex? for a little bit just while this very early stage is underway.

I don't know what's normal but I period pains until about 16 weeks on and off.

Thandeka · 09/03/2009 10:18

Phew that was the sort of reassurance I was looking for!
Thanks Brettgirl2

no worries, it's totally normal. especially after sex

i had a lot of cramping in the beginning with ds. i was really worried and asked the doc about it. she just kept telling me that as long as there's no bleeding accompanied with it, then it's just your uterus stretching and getting ready for what's to come.

So sex is okay really isnt it then?

Have told DH though he has to use a condom (not because of anything silly like being worried the semen will flush the emby out of its nest- but because the "dribble" afterwards and associated cramping makes me panic my period is on its way! hehe!)

Hurrah for TMI on MN!

i can't really say one way or another as your gp can determine whether it's safe for you or not. from what i've read, most say it's okay unless you're at risk for miscarriages.

very clever on setting rules for dh though. lol made me laugh!

congrats btw. pregnancy is so exciting!

Hi, Im new to here so hello! I too have period type pain - not terrible but Im concious of it! Im 4 weeks 6 days! Every pain and twinge Is worrying already!!

kelly2525 · 30/08/2010 22:26

HCarra I had awful period pains a few months ago, i KNEW it was on its way, went and bought more tampons, and waited and waited for it,but it never came, am now 20 weeks pregnant with a baby boy due in January. I had crampy pains for a few weeks, midwife sent me for two early scans, at 6 weeks and 8 weeks and everything was fine, theyre just stretching pains, baby settling in and getting comfy

DetectivePotato · 30/08/2010 22:29

When I was pregnant with DS, I had period type pains for about 4 months.

This time I am now 16 weeks and getting lots of twinges and 'stretching' pains. All normal so don't worry.

If it carries on and gets really bad with bright red bleeding, thats when you need to be a bit more concerned.

Hi, I'm new here, found out last night that I'm pregnant (only about 3 weeks) and have been having period-pain-like cramps all night so am really relieved to hear I'm not the only one!

ledkr · 01/09/2010 10:13

Me too. with dd 8 and current pg 17 wks sometimes really painfull and I bought tampons too at beginning.got less about 14 wks but still get it. can't be arsed to have sex so can't answer that one!

Yep, I'm 8+2 (formally, although my cycle is really long and irregular so I think I'm really about 2 weeks behind that). I've been having mild period-like cramps constantly for last two weeks.
