Are self induction methods (after 37 weeks) even worth trying?

Bit panicy about childcare for my DD more than anything. But a week or so before I am due, my sister is around and can litterally stay with us the whole time, getting DD used to her and meaning what ever time of day or night, we can go without worrying. My DD is only 1 and a very difficult sleeper so that is why I am so worried.

If I were to have my baby at 38-39weeks, it would be perfect. But I know it doesn't really work like that!

Is it even worth trying the whole pineapple, sex, curry, clary sage oil stuff that I did over and over again with DD and nothing shifted her?

I have had three overdue babies! Tried everything and was induced first two times

Last time, I resigned myself to going overdue, just accepted it and then wentinto labour myself for the first time! Clever me...

Intersted in this! I am on the raspberry leaf tea but I think that merely tones the uterus and doesn't actually begin anything....

I was v overdue with DS1 (induced at 42 weeks) - went on mat leave at 37 weeks when pregnant with DS2 and had 2 weeks of looking after DS1 on my own to deal with (lots of walking, running around, lugging him and pushchair up and down stairs etc.) and went into labour with DS2 at 38+6 days. So I figure lots of activity with a 2 year old toddler and ignoring the fact you're heavily pregnant is clearly the way to go...

Friends of mine have sworn by accupuncture - may be worth a go at 38 weeks if you're ready to pop anyway.

mistlethrush · 06/03/2009 13:56

Yup - I had accupuncture - ds (1st baby) arrived a week early...

audreyraines · 06/03/2009 14:04

do it, we had sex the night before i went into labour - 2 weeks early!

had also been drinking raspberry tea, walking along the curb - one foot on, one off, etc etc.

in any event, it won't do any harm!

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 06/03/2009 14:05

I tried everything with ds1 - he was induced 2 1/2 weeks after edd.

I did nothing with d2 - he arrived of his own accord on his due date!

Good luck!

audreyraines · 06/03/2009 14:07

oh yeah had acupuncture as well. completely lovely and relaxing even if you don't go into labour.

Princeonthemove · 06/03/2009 14:10

I love the 'one foot on, one foor off' curb idea. Never heard of it but it can only add to my rep as insane waddling irascible local loony. Excellent.

audreyraines · 06/03/2009 14:30

yeah, i was definitely going for the local looney look

i can also recommend carrying insane amounts of shopping from the supermarket back home - i'm pretty sure that helps!

audreyraines · 06/03/2009 14:34

another looney looking labour inducing method i heard was swinging on the swings. unfortunately i can't fit my bum into any of the playground swings around here

KT1983 · 06/03/2009 15:54

The day before I went in to Labour I went to the gym, ran on the treadmill, did cross trainer & then for a swim...she obviously got the hint as I started getting BH about 3 hours later & went ino labour about 12 hours after that.
Just keep active - def the way to go!
Good Luck

I don't have much choice but to keep active - I have a 14 month old!! But TBH I think my body is used to it by now!

I keep forgetting to buy rasberry leaf tea/tablets!!

Raspberry leaf tea worked for me! I was two weeks overdue with all of mine - the last time I decided I had had enough and started on the tea at 37 weeks (on the dot ) and went into labour two weeks early. You could tell the baby was two weeks early as well rather than just a mix up with dates!

I drank as much as you ar allowed as storng as I could, t is not all that pleasant but it is worth it IMO!

thumbwitch · 07/03/2009 00:27

probably won't do any harm to try everything - I tried them all but got nowhere and had to be induced but the raspberry leaf certainly made a difference (I believe) to the birth process! If you're interested, you can read my story on my blog

Good luck with it anyway!

soon2befamilyof4 · 07/03/2009 10:18

I am not at that stage yet anyway - I have another 3 weeks till I cans start trying all this!
