When pregnant do Doctors go by the weeks from your last period? so if you were to have a scan you wouldn't be 12 weeks you'd be 10?

As my last period was on 26th February i have pcos and my periods have been every 5 or 6 weeks apart which is good since my first baby as previously i had only 3 or 4 periods per year.

That's why i was thinking i am 4 weeks pregnant but probably 7 since period so not sure?

The GP and MW will usually take the date from your last menstrual period. So your 12 wk scan would be 12wks from your LMP and 10 weeks from ovulation (if you have 28 day text book cycle).

If your periods are irregular then they will probably date the pregnancy after your scan. But I think you are classed as 7wks pg.... and your due date will be....

3rd December. They will probably alter that after your scan though!

Yeah, doctors count from the first day of your last period I think. They then calsculate your due date 40 weeks from that date.
If you're going by actual date of conception, it's 38 weeks from then when you'll be due.

Thanks for that Toothache and Calista. It's hard to know how many weeks i am with the 5/6 weeks periods but i guess i shall soon find out.

I know i must be mad having done 3 tests already! 2 very very hardly noticeable tests and one with a digital which said 'pregnant' i'm worried it could become negative (still not convinced) as the last one i did was still hardly noticed. Think i will do one again on Sunday the day before i go to the doctors on Monday.

Toothache and Calista are right, they use the first day of LMP and add 40 wks but may well change at your dating scan - this happened to me and they put me back 2 weeks , still, i've only got 4 weeks left now....

they may give you a dating scan. I had one at 6 weeks as I had had irregular periods (among other reasons)... well... I didn't know it was 6 weeks... but that's what the results of the scan were! And it was pretty much spot on!

It may be that like you said, becuase of your pcos your ovulated later so your only just pregnant, therefor that would be the reason the hpt are coming up faint or not so bold as they could be. ps if you check out ebay they do brill hpt for between 60p- £3 and they measure better than the ones in shops, clueblue etc normally measure 20/25 MIU whereas these that i bought measure 10 and 15 MIU

im still awaiting dating scan as im between 9-11 weeks but due to my pcos the dates dont match the scan done at epac!
