Oh hell - think I may have mild food poisoning

Last night, after thinking I was badly constipated (and in quite a bit of discomfort) - suddenly it went to the other extreme iyswim.

I know some people have diahorrea just as part of pregnancy but my stomach feels unsettled as well.

The only slightly risky thing I ate yesterday was bagged salad - but I rewashed it again myself to be on the safe side. Maybe that wasn't enough.

I'm 16 weeks and 4 days. I'm in no risk of dehydration at the moment as it's only been the once. But am still worried about the baby.

Just keep drinking lots of fluid, flat coke or sprite is good for this. (I don't know why flat, but its what my mum always gave me!!)

If it keeps happening, call NHS direct or your GP and feel better soon!!

One bout of diarrhoea and a dicky tummy isn't anything to get too concerned about, so please try not to worry. You could always ring your midwife or GP if you need some reassurance.

It could have been anything that caused it - it might not even be food poisoning - perhaps there's a bug going round?

I don't think you need to worry about the bagged salad. If it is mild food poisoning it could have come from pretty much anywhere. It's so easy to get paranoid when you're pregnant but you need to try and relax (easier said than done I know, I'm pregnant myself and constanty fretting about something )

Take it easy until your stomach settles. Hope you're feeling better soon.

I had a terrible bug when I was around as pg as you are now with dd1. I went to the GP as I was getting cramps with it. Everything was absolutely fine and she assured me that the baby is your very own little parasite (nice!) which will make sure it drains you of your resources in order to survive, even if you feel like death.

I also had horrendous morning sickness with dd2 - to the point where I was hospitalised and put on a drip, but there was no danger to the baby at all.

AGree with Tee about the fluids - as many as you can and dry toast as well if you manage it. Try to avoid dairy stuff for a bit as it can make the nausea worse.

It's more likely to be a virus. The risk from bagged salad is listeria, and you probably wouldn't have a reaction so soon (plus you re-washed it, so that would make it safe).

Thanks everyone. A glass of coke is being left to flatten in the kitchen!

I had the worst sickness and dia bug of my life at 5 weeks, was so worried. All was fine and DS is now 7mths and running me raggid (sp?)

I had really horrible food poisoning when I was about 12 weeks pregnant with DS. DH and I were both throwing up everything. At first I thought it was morning sickness coming back and then he started throwing up and I realised it wasn't.

I was worried about DS especially when water came back up too, but he was fine. Hope he feel better soon.
