you can go in what you feel naked. personally I prefferred to feel not restricted by any clothing and went in starkers, but know alot of people who have worn their bra/croptop or a t-shirt

tip-dont get in pool too early-hold out as long as you can, if you get in too early it can slow or even halt contractions-v frustrating. I got in about 1hr after G+A when I was at the point I was making strange howling type noises when breathing out, when I got in it was UTTER BLISS, ds2 arrived
1 +1/2hrs later

Im looking forward to getting baby out now! last hing id want to do is slow down the labour lol hopefully ill be able to hold out long enough i love water as pain releif iv spent most of my pregnancy in a warm bath haha... sori if this is abit personal but im abit scared incase i 'move my bowels' whilst in the water do you know what they do if you do and didthis happen 2 u or any1 u know?x

yes, it happens to alot of people, Ive been on both ends-scooping up other peoples and did it myself.
MWs do not make a big deal out of it, just remove it discreetly with a little net type thing. TBH I was so caught up in the pain I didnt know I had done it until dp pointed out I had

mum2b09 · 28/02/2009 00:36

haha oh how lovely of you dp to point out that you had! lol ill just make sure i tell my bf that it is really common for women to do it before hand so hes warned! lol xx

This brings back memories of my waterbirth. Tis a lovely experience, but like previous poster said, don't get in to early. The warm water makes you very sleepy, midwife had to feel for my contractions and tell me when to push. I'd given up! I went in naked, and sod dignity. Once they hand you the mirror to down and see the crowning of the head dignity flies out the window! Good luck, hope pool is free when you pop!

By the way, as soon as i knew i was in labour I had some syrup of figs. It cleared my bowels and I didn't have any floater accidents in pool!

Kiki123 · 28/02/2009 18:03

hey, once you're in that pool you'll completely forget anyone around you and the midwives won't bat an eyelid at your boobs, they've seen it all. You'll feel much freer without anything on to restrict you, relax and enjoy it. I can highly recommend downloading some guided visualisations from www.hypnobirthingdownloads.com which will help take you into a wonderful relaxation - you'll totally switch off from your surroundings and your baby can birth more easily, comfortably and naturally when you're relaxed. Enjoy, enjoy ... it'll be fabulous!

I had a waterbirth for DS2 - got in totally naked (wasnt planning on a waterbirth but got a room with a pool when I got to birth centre and realised I really wanted to be in the water right now when I got there - was already at 10 cms when I got in and it was great as took the edge off of transition and gave birth to DS2 in there). Didnt do a poo or anything in the pool - think my body had cleared itself out earlier in the day in preparation for labour anyway...
