Advice on varicose veins (arrggggggh!)

I was mortified to be told by my GP during my check today that the weird bruise and prominent veins coming off it are reticular/spider veins and varicose veins! As this is my fourth pregnancy, with the previous three passing without event, I had hoped for the same. I am therefore completely distraught! Can anybody advise whether these things go after birth and what to do about minimising them in the meantime? I know you are meant to elevate your legs but I have three kids to look after and school runs to do so this is not really possible. Do support socks make any difference?

Stockings might help! You usually need to have them fitted though, so talk to Gp about it first.

Comma2 - Thanks for your response, although the GP just looked and said I can have them zapped with laser after the baby is born if they are still there. I am really hoping they might disappear as they are so far not bulging, just visible veins with what looks like more spider veins down my leg now too.
