Navel hernia and 32 weeks pregnant

I'm 32 weeks pg and my belly button has been sticking out since week 19. It was initially quite painful when I bumped it but doesn't hurt any more. My midwife asked me if it was a hernia or my belly button, I replied just my belly button, but now I think I have a hernia there as you can push it back through. Are these common? What will happen when I give birth - I don't want to push more inside out!!! Will it go away? Seeing midwife again in 2 weeks so will ask her all this then too, but have been on internet (always a bad idea) and got myself worried.

Not pregnancy related, but my DH had a navel hernia a few years ago. I'm not sure they go away without treatment, although I guess pregnancy would make them much worse. He had his repaired as a day case at the local hospital, it involved a small incision under his navel and they insert a mesh to hold everything together. He couldn't lift anything heavy for a few weeks but it healed quickly. HTH

Thanks for the replies - it doesn't seem to be very common. mum2b09 let me know how it all goes - only 2 weeks to go for you! Don't like the idea of surgery afterwards though...
