I am 36 weeks, and have been suffering from spd on and off in this pregnancy. I have been seeing a chiropractor which has helped a lot.
I am getting anxious about the birth, should i try and stand up , whats the best position? Any tips would be very much appreciated.

Keep active and upright.

Have a piece of string attached to your notes that shows how wide you can have your knees without it hurting at all.

Make sure everyone in the room knows you have it, and knows to be extra careful with moving your legs and examining you.

My MW recommended giving birth on your side, I ended up feet in the air with ventouse (but they looked after me and it didn't make it any worse... really). Until baby started struggling (totally unrelated, was V Quick!) I was doing great stood up leaning over the bed, then kneeling facing the head end of the bed.

Good luck, and don't worry too much

I was advised to have the piece of string round my knees - but we forgot!
But the staff were all good at not asking me to be on my back at all - on my side for initial exam, then kneeling forward on lots of pillows for much of labour, or in the birth pool.

My SPD did suddenly get much worse in labour so had an epidural - no problems after that, though getting me into a kneeling position to push was a bit undignified and involved about 20 pillows!

Thanks for that, will ask my mid wife to make it clear on my notes that i have spd. kneeling sounds good, will see how the pain is. Obviously will need to see what happens as you can never tell with child birth! With dd 1 she went back to back, which ended up with forceps and episiotomy. So lets hope baby gets in a good position. I had a scan and it is approx 7lb 9 already, dd1 was 6lb 11oz, so lets hope mother nature looks after me!

Yes, dignity goes out the window! will ask for some pillows as the last time it was uncomfortable on the bed.
