Cost of a private C Section?

Anybody know the cost of a private c section? My hospital are making it really difficult for me to have a c section - but I don't think that my body can cope with a natural birth of twins.

Most people I know with twins were offered a C section no questions asked

A friend of mine had her 2nd NHS delivery in Chelsea and Westminster. When there were minor complications and she had to be kept in for a few days she asked about moving to the Kensington Wing (private section) for the aftercare because although she was happy with the ante-natal care and the midwives in the delivery room she felt that the quality of the midwives on the post natal side was not as good and the ward had been filthy and very noisy.
They said no problem - she just had to pay the nightly charge (around £850 a day I think). They only book at 70% of capacity to guarantee private patients a room, so it's unlikely they'd ever be too full to turn down the easy money. You'd get good quality NHS care followed by excellent aftercare. It's not cheap but it might be worth paying for private room with sparkling clean ensuite bathroom, fantastic midwives who are happy to take the baby and let you sleep, flexible visiting and an all round feeling of care. Private c-sections in C&W take place in the same theatres as the NHS ones, and if you don't like your NHS consultant you can always ask for a second opinion.

I am going to have an elective C section and this is how much it is going to cost:

£3,000 - hospital charges + 1st night
£2,500 - consultant's fees
£250 - paediatrician fees
£500 - Anaesthetist fees
£690 - per each extra night

I am going to have my baby at the Lansdell suite, which is the private wing at St Thomas' hospital. I looked at all different hospitals before making my final choice and I felt St Thomas' offered what I was looking for in terms of care and costs. Hope this helps

I am having twins and the consultant will only let my try for a natural birth if 1st baby is head down.

Why dont you think your body can cope? Have you had a previous bad experience?

It was when I was in there (in the NHS bit, I tried to move) and I know several others who had the same problem

TBH I wouldn't ahve a c-section in anything but an nhs hospital.

Has the benfits of being in a large NHS hospital. I haven't been there myself but it may be worth a look.

Where are you? How far along are you?

Queen charlotte has a fantastic private ward. By the you have paid fees etc, you are looking at circa £10k. The consultant fees are higher.

My obs there specialises in twin pregnancies - and he is fantastic. If you want his name then let me know.

I'd also recommend the Queen Charlotte's and the Private Ward (Stanley Clayton Ward) I think my c-section cost about £8k / £9k which included consultants fees from start of the pregnancy.

You have all the back up of giving birth in an NHS hospital and have the benefit of seeing same consultant all the way through your pregancy & during the birth & then excellent after care.
