Anyone know?

TBH I am so confused about what is or isn't allowed nowadays.

lol at your title- what kind of 'fake meat' is it? quorn, tofu, tvp? I eat cold quorn products all the time,as well as cooked but then chilled tofu things.
I kind of take the (probably worng) view that veggie stuff can't be as harmful as meat.

mumface · 19/02/2009 12:03

Depends what brand/type u mean eg quorn slices/sausage rolls & whether it has been previously reheated.Follow the same rules as u would meat. Then u can't go wrong.I've just had some lovely Quorn salad sandwhiches as am vegetarian.

Yuk. Your thread title makes it sound very unappetising. Cold fake meat.

Sorry, that's not much help.

SobranieCocktail · 19/02/2009 12:37

It's a Tivall "slicing sausage", kind of like erm...polony? (disclaimer: I've never eaten real polony).

I've actually just had a nibble while I was waiting for replies. Whoops.

MMmmm Fake cold meat [Homer]

you mean its cooked but gone cold?if so yes.we eat left over veggie chicken or sausages etc.not that yummy but ok.

Gemzooks · 19/02/2009 12:43

I would eat it but don't become a food advertising copywriter

MrsBadger · 19/02/2009 12:51

yes

good non-hysterical guide on what you can and can't eat here

SobranieCocktail · 20/02/2009 08:01

Thanks all! Mrs B - that's very useful, thanks! I notice it doesn't mention pre-packed salads. I thought these were now regarded as some sort of uber-breeding ground for listeria? Also, when it says to avoid vegetarian pate, do you think it includes stuff like Tartex (which is a long-life yeast pate which comes out of a tube...Mmmmm I can see I'm getting your mouths watering again ).

lol at gemzooks

Pre-packed salads aren't as risky as the hype would have you believe but obv it's your call. I am a lazy cook so balanced the risk of bagged salads vs the risk of eating no salad at all for 9m...

and yes veggie pate includes Tartex, sorry.

muffle · 20/02/2009 08:41

Sobranie where did you get tivall sausages? I used to love them but haven't seen them around for ages.

SobranieCocktail · 20/02/2009 08:43

Oh fark re: the Tartex

muffle - I got it in my local health food shop. You could try Holland and Barrett?

But you can make your own vegetarian pate as long as its not sitting about in the fridge - ie as long as you're making it with things that you are allowed, and eating it so its not sitting around, you'd be fine.

Similarly, soft cheese, blue cheese and goats cheese - as long as its been thoroughly cooked you're OK (but I wouldn't cook it then leave it to get cold and eat it the following day ifyswim)

MrsBadger · 20/02/2009 08:47

in the same vein, prepacked hummus, taramsalata and smoked salmon mousse are all fine for satifying the pate lust

olivo · 20/02/2009 08:48

muffle- i think either asda or tesco do their own equivalent of tivall sausages; they taste exactly the same. I also get the tivall from the HF shop, dd loves the little cocktail ones!
I didnt think about veggie pate - i have it every day in my sandwiches . i'd know if it had doneme any harm, wouldn't i?

SobranieCocktail · 20/02/2009 08:57

Well phew re: the houmous. This child is mainly built out of the stuff.

Are you sure that smoked salmon mousse is safer than Tartex?? I would have thought Tartex was among the most sterile pate-type spreads around.

But I think I could bring myself to force down a bit of salmon mousse if that was the safer alternative

muffle - agree with olivo re: tesco Tivallesque sausages (the frankfurter ones), but the polony-style slicing sausage is much harder to get hold of.

Sobranie I can't believe that (having quite a lot to do today!) I actually just watched that all the way through - haven't seen it for years - genius. Thanks for your tivall tips.
