Hi everyone

Just been for my scan this morning and thought I saw a tiny meat and two veg! I asked the sonographer if sex could be confirmed at this stage and she said 'ooh it does look very much like a male anatomy, but we can't confirm at this stage'. Anyone else been in this position or do girls and boys bits look the same at this stage in development.

Many thanks

I think they can only really tell at this stage if they look in 4d - although by 12 weeks babies bits have definitely developed into one or the other. You ar very eagle eyes - when I had 12 week scan with ds, I could barely make out arms and legs!!

with DS, thought I saw a willy at 16 weeks and it was correct. with DD (haven't had her yet, am 34 weeks pg!) I looked loads at the 12 week scan pics and thought I could see the three lines which indicate a girl, and I was right, confirmed at 20 weeks. esp if the sonographer saw it as well I would tentatively assume a boy..

I had a similar call at 13 and a bit weeks - sonographer was looking in that area, then suddenly asked 'Do you want to know the sex?' and showed us what looked very much like wedding tackle, and then said 'But I wouldn't tell anyone just yet as it can't be confirmed'.
Talk about confusing!!!

Well I am 18 weeks and at my 12 wek scan I definately saw a will and scrotum....I have had two girls and it looked very different. It was really obvious, in fact I burst out laughing and just asked. But of course its too early to say......

My OB (also sonogrpahy specialist) said you can often get a pretty good idea, but you shouldn't paint the nursery based on the 12 week scan.
With DS1 couldn't see a thing despite much prodding and with DS2 (due April) OB was 80% sure was boy - this has since been reconfirmed at every scan.

With ds...we (dh and i) both came out and said 'that was a boy'
with dd we both came out and said 'i didn't see anything...did you?'
Sounds like you have a baby boy
