Hi, I'm 12 weeks. I had my scan yesterday and everything seemed fine, but today i'm getting terrible pains. I've been having period-type pains on and off throughout, but these are different. Very "stabby" and quite intense (it hurts to walk...they are mainly down the left side of groin, and accross the middle a bit...Am really concerned, and not sure what to do-would be v.v. grateful for any advice from you wise mumsnetters!!!

It could be round ligament pain. These are the ligaments that hold your pelvis together which stretch with release of the hormone relaxin. It's uncomfortable and very scary, but perfectly normal. It's OK to take paracetomol for the pain.

If you are worried though, call your CMW tomorrow for a chat. They would rather put your mind at ease over something and nothing than miss something that might be wrong.

Hi there,

Found this link for someone earlier this week:Round ligament pain

But also look at:
SPD

See if any of the above sounds like what you're feeling? Obviously check it out with the GP on Monday if you can (you can always ask for a phone call back if they can't fit you in, or call the midwife), and hopefully nothing sinister is happening.

If this is your first pregnancy (apologies if not), then it's hard when you don't know what every feeling is, I must say that I'm almost at the end of my second preg now, and the amount of pains and twinges I have dimissed this time as just "mysterious pains of pregnancy" have been many - first time though, I was quite anxious about it.

That wasn't meant to sounds patronising but more to put your mind at rest - there is so much going on, lots of stuff stretching, moving and getting squashed you wont be able to account for what every sensation is...

Good luck!
