I'm 14 weeks and keep waking up at 4am, wide, wide awake. I don't drop off until around 5.30 which is no good as weekdays the alarm goes off at 6.15. I had the same at about 7 weeks but thought it had gone away.

I think it's a pregnancy thing but can't be sure obviously - anyone else in the same boat?

i've had that a few times, wake up in the middle of the night and can't back to sleep, so can sympathise!

not sure how to tackle it although it could be your sugar levels dropping in the middle of the night, so maybe try eating some yogurt and nuts or something like that before you go to bed so you aren't in 'fasting' mode for such a long time over night? HTH

Yes that's a good idea, will give it a go x

Question is why do you think you wake up? Are you hungry? Do you feel anxious? Bladder?
I started waking up at 4.00 in the morning last week but am now 34 weeks. At 14 weeks I think I would have found it really annoying as there's a bit to go yet and you want to get some rest!!
Have you tried homeopathy? I've been advised to take Nux Vomica which is also good for nausea.

Not anxious - but mind immediately wide awake and I start thinking about really random things. It's the bladder which starts it though and wakes me up - but usually when I need the loo in the night I go straight back to sleep.

Yes. Have been waking at that time all the way through this pregnancy. I'm now 38 weeks so getting ever so slightly bored of the night-time waking now. Food sometimes helps or reading but basically I just have to wait until I am tired enough to fall asleep again (usually about 40 mins before the alarm).

Sorry. Have realised that I haven't helped much but at least you know you aren't the only one

Longtalljosie · 14/02/2009 21:50

It does help to know I'm not the only one! Oh well. I had a month or so when it went back to normal - maybe it will again

It's your hormones! Pregnancy insomnia is quite common. I had it horribly early in pregnancy, and then the last month and a half were HELL!

lemonmoon · 15/02/2009 08:21

I've had it too, since about 6 weeks. I think it's my punishment for not getting any ms...

I'm right there with you, and i'm exhausted! usually wake for a wee then can't go off again....until 5 mins before dd wakes up

Look in the Sunday Times Style section! There is an article about waking up at 4am- nothing to do with pregnancy! But that is by the by- I had this too when I was pregnant- it is the hormones! I hope it settled down for you soon.
