Hangingbellyofbabylon · 13/02/2009 08:34

oh my God, I mean if you have disabled children you really shouldn't bring any more into the world . .

Reality you ignoramous. Her other children being disabled has NOTHING to do with the argument.

she may be irresponsible but it's her life, her world. And I still maintain that having disabled children doesn't make a difference - If I wanted 10 disabled children I would.I think that as a mum of one disabled child I am far better equiped to look after a second disabled child. If this next one I am expecting is born with a disability it will be a blessing for us all. Yes, she may be irresponsible, although I feel far more blame should be handed to the doctors who actually implanted that many embryos. I still maintain that your comment about her having 3 disabled children was thoughtless even if you didn't mean it that way.

I have to admit I am extra sensitive as currently expecting baby number 3 and as dd2 has cerebral palsy I have had a lot of comments suggesting that as I have a disabled child I shouldn't have anymore 'just in case'. So sorry for being extra touchy, it's hard to constantly hear things that make you feel as if your disabled child somehow has less right to be here or is more of a bother somehow. I know it's my interpretation and not coming from your original statement so sorry .

I am sorry but she receives over US$400 a week in food stamps in additional to other welfare and disabilities. The public (the US public, at least) have an interest in whether she has more children or not and are entitled to voice their opinion on it.

She is just plain insane , in my opinion. She already has 6 children!! does not matter whether any of them has disability or not, 6 children, healhty or not, should be enough ; why on earth she went and got herself 8 more??
poor children, thats what i say.... Clearly, she needs some help.

lollipopmother · 15/02/2009 08:09

I'm with Reality, it is clear that her post does not even hint at saying that the woman shouldn't have more children in case they are disabled.

I am in awe of you Hangingbelly if you truly believe that looking after a disabled DC is as easy as a non-disabled one, I think you are in the minority there.

This lady already has six children, that is a LOT to look after, three are disabled so as far as I'm concerned that means she must have extra to do for them, and now she has 8 newborns, that is mad!

Mind you though, I can't imagine she asked for octuplets and I wouldn't feel comfortable aborting some and leaving some, so good luck to the lady, she's going to have her work cut out!

Flightattendant27 · 15/02/2009 09:18

I think from what I have read, that the woman has made some mistakes and is rather confused - not abnormally so - but I don't see how people attacking or villifying her will help those poor children. They are her babies, they are wanted, plenty of children don't have that to start with...

I don't know the full story but it seems she had IVF initially, and later wanted to use the remaining six embryos so that they wouldn't be destroyed. I can fully understand that sentiment - if I had produced embryos I wouldn't want any of them destroyed.

I hope she gets enough help, I really do - and providing she doesn't have any more, think the state ought to provide as much help as is necessary for those children to have the love and support and care that they require.

I would help her out if I could, practically rather than financially.
