Bleeding in week 9.... reassurance needed PLEASE........

I'm now 9 weeks pregnant with my second child. I had spotting on and off in weeks 5&6 & two scans at the epu revealed a normal live fetus. Since this morning (when my second missed period would have been due) I'm been bleeding which is kind of like a light period, so so scared. I've spoken to the epu & I'm going there in the morning. They said I won't necessarily be offered a scan which I find hard to believe. My husband is working in the states until next week so I'm feeling a bit alone.

Before I got pregnant my periods (since having my daughter) have been very heavy, erratic & with lots of breakthrough bleeding so I'm hoping the bleeding I'm experiencing now is more to do with that rather than there being something wrong with the baby.

I'm not having any pain or passing clots. Has anybody been in the same boat & had a positive outcome?

I had exactly the same as you, spotting at 4/5 weeks then again at 9 weeks. This continued throughout my pregnancy, it turned out to be a cervical ectropion (completely harmless) and DD is now 17 months old.

I can't believe thye're going to refuse you a scan though, can you insist?

MummyLovesSadie · 11/02/2009 20:29

Thanks HeinzSight - it is so good to hear somebody with a similar problem who has had a good outcome. I keep looking up stuff on the net & frightening myself, TMI is a scary thing.

I will insist on a scan tomorrow, otherwise I'm just not going to have peace of mind.

I had spotting at about 6wks and a light period type bleed at 10 weeks with my 1st baby.(18wks no.3 now)Never found out why but he was born perfectly healthy. It is petrifying i know.Good luck hope you get your scan.

YesSirICanBoogie · 11/02/2009 20:38

I had exactly the same. I'm now 27 weeks and everything is fine. As far as I know, implantation bleeding is mormal around when your period is due and unless it's heavy and brown and accompanied by severe pain, you shouldn't panic. Get it checked though! Good luck!

Yes, I had really heavy bleeding - clots, haemorrhage.. the lot! - even when I was rushed into A&E they all assumed the worst. I remember the Doc being so surprised that the cervix was closed! That lasted up to 12 weeks with both my pregnancies. Never had any pain though - not so much as a twinge and the outcome of both was fabulous - both DDs are asleep upstairs!

Just keep an eye on it and get that scan done. Fingers crossed x

Thank you all, feeling a bit better after reading your posts. Keep everything crossed for me & I'll let you know how I get on tomorrow.

I've had two episodes of spotting in this pg and was told it's a sub-chorionic bleed and doesn't affect the pg. I've bled in every pg, 4 were m/c. I've got one ds. There has been no pattern wrt bleeding and successful outcome. You really should be scanned so that they can establish the cause of bleeding. It will also help put your mind at rest - as in my case, where I was told to expect some more bleeding but not to worry. Good luck tomorrow.

Sleepdeprived72 · 11/02/2009 22:11

I had similar spotting in both my pregnancies and have 2 very healthy boys and problem free pregnancies. I was advised at the time that it maybe because I had a bi-cornate uterus (read funny shaped womb)which didn't cause me any issue other than 2 breech babies and hence 2 C sections. All the best for your appointment.

MummyLovesSadie · 12/02/2009 13:58

Very sad news. There was no heartbeat & I was told to expect to miscarry in the next couple of days. I think the internal scan must have stared the miscarriage off as I've now lost my baby. I'm hoping the worst of it is over as I've passed a lot of blood & clots.

Nothing to do now but give my dd lots of cuddles today & be grateful I have her.

Thanks for your messages. Feeling a lot better, not bleeding too badly & dh managed to get a flight back to the uk which came in this morning. I'm going to look on the positive side now & start ttc again (huge sigh). I know it is soon but its my way of looking to the future.

I've read loads about you being a lot more fertile after m/c, lets hope it is true.

In the meantime I'm going to have a much needed few glasses of red wine.

Sorry to hear your news MummyLovesSadie and I echo what you said about JeanJeannie giving us hope - I will be 40 in November and miscarried my first pregnancy 2 days after my 39th birthday. TTC again now

Hoe to meet you on an antenatal thread sometime soon

jeanjeannie · 14/02/2009 16:31

Well - I hope to see you over on our 40+ thread in pregnancy very soon....we'll keep the cake warm and the champers on ice P.S we also let 39'ers' join in too! x

ladylush · 15/02/2009 13:18

mummyloves - I conceived straight after m/c (ERPC) and yes I have also heard women are more fertile at this time. Good luck I understand you wanting ttc again. I felt the same.

ladyhelen2 · 15/02/2009 13:24

mummyloves, sorry to read your news. Like lady lush I just wanted to add something positive, I had a mc in July and an EPRC. PG after first AF which arrived 28 days after the EPRC. Am now 29 weeks pg. So there does seem to be something in being fertile after an EPRC.

Thinking of you and make sure your DH looks after you - he sounds like a good one if he came back from the US!
