Pains in Cervix 3rd Trimester

I'm 38 weeks and was having all over bump contractions for the past 3 days. Was examined and told not in labour and cervix not ready or dilating. They died off this morning but this afternoon I have been getting really intense sharp shooting pains in my cervix. They are so bad I involuntarily lift my bum off whatever I'm sitting on and squeal! Cant talk when they are happening, just screw my face up and pant (DH's description ) Feels like someone has shoved a knitting needle up my fanjo and is stabbing me

Has anyone ever had this/know what it could be?

I used to get this, I put it down to pressure on my cervix. It didn't hurt as such, it was uncomfortable and just a very odd sensation.

I used to get an uncomfy pressure when l.o's head engaged (2nd timer - it used to pop in and out) and s/he wriggled about but not pain like this. It's awful

I've had a few of these too spottyshoes - particularly over the last couple of days. I don't think my ones are as painful as you describe but they are certainly noticeable. I imagine it's the baby's head bouncing down on your cervix and perhaps a bit of pre-labour ripening going on. As your experience sounds much more intense I think you should run it past your midwife.

Thanks pluto, am seeing her on Thurs so will definately be mentioning it. (am secretly hoping she will tell me it's dilating loads but know I'm not that lucky!!)

Well - perhaps you'll be joining me and delivering on the Friday 13th. A lucky omen you know...

Can you even feel pain in the cervix at all, let alone intense & sharp ones?

I had a biopsy that involved chipping off bits of my cervix and didn't feel a thing. Then had a LEEP operation where a conical chunk of my cervix was cut off (about the size of index finger's first digit). Again, woke up and didn't feel a thing except a bit of a dull ache.

Would love to!! DS was a Fri 13th baby last April - it's very lucky

Sorry Spotty - I do get sharp pains but rarely in cervix as bums rarely engage the way heads do. It would make sense that its LOs head using your cervix as Fitball but thats not to say you shouldn't run it by MW...to be fair, MW will probably smile and say, "oh, that sounds promising!" but best to check!

spottyshoes · 11/02/2009 04:57

CoteDAzur, I definately can. Must just be unlucky then.

Lol chilled, bet you are spot on about the MW! I think it must be baby's head and lying down has eased them. I didn't get them at all with breech DS. Head down is all new to me

spotty - I was trying to say that the pains you feel might be coming from elsewhere, since there aren't many (any?) nerve endings on the cervix. It might be a good idea to try to find out where exactly your pains are coming from.

hi, pluto, I am due on Fri 13th as well although I have lost all hope that this baby is gonna come out any time soon!
spottyshoes ( love the nickname btw), I had these pains a week ago, thought: Oh, thanks, God, contractions, and guess what, it stopped, and since then - nothing! so annoying!!
