Last night DD woke me up crying and as I got out of bed I realized that both of my hands (wrists, thumbs and two fingers next to my thumbs on both hands) were numb. After a few seconds I got really bad pins and needles which lasted for ages.
Once the pins and needles had stopped I started to get the same numb feeling in the right side of my neck and face, with pins and needles following on from the numbness.

The right side of my face still feels kind of weird after this and my tongue feels numb on the right side and has done all day.

This is my second pg and I never had this when pg with DD. I am 17+2.

Thank you for reading.

No idea what it is but I would phone the midwife if I was you (I am a worrier though)

PlumBumMum · 08/02/2009 16:52

If you still feel strange go see gp tomorrow please

Lulumama · 08/02/2009 16:52

the hand thing sounds like carpal tunnel syndrome which is quite common in pregnancy.. due to extra fluid pressing in nerves i think

not sure re the numb face though

perhaps a call to NHS direct or your GP would be useful..

insertwittynicknameHERE · 08/02/2009 16:54

Thank you, I will give NHS direct a call and see what they say.

lulu, is there anything I can do to reduce the effects of the carpal tunnel syndrome?

Oh and I forgot to mention that I had a really bad migraine last night before I went to bed with 'flashing lights' as well. Wonder if this could have anything to do with it?

I would give them a call as I thought of carpal tunnel but with everything else it dosen't sound like it
let us know what they say

insertwittynicknameHERE · 08/02/2009 17:09

Okay I will call them later when DD is in bed as she is being a bit of a money right now. I am trying to sit here and let her get on with it [bad mummy emoticon]. (But she is okay really)

Hi, I have experienced similar symptoms with migraines. The last time was in early pregnancy and I had pins and needles around my lips and nose, also in my fingertips. I hope that reassures you a little. Would def talk to mw/dr about it though.

soon2befamilyof4 · 08/02/2009 19:34

Yes I would go and see your GP or midwife.

insertwittynicknameHERE · 09/02/2009 09:08

Thanks, I have called NHS direct and the nurse recommended A&E, but I have managed to make an appointment with my GP for later on this afternoon, so instead of bothering A&E I will go and see my GP.

The rights side of my tongue is still numb this morning, my face still feels kinda odd IYSWIM.

Make sure your happy with any answers you get from gp, if they're anything like mine

Hawkmoth · 09/02/2009 16:42

I get migraines like that. I can feel the pins and needles moving around my body, worst is in the mouth when it goes down the throat.

Hope you feel better and your GP was helpful.

How frustrating, i had numbness in hands and constant itchy hands with ds2, i self diagnosed carpal tunnel syndrome and wen i went to the docs she said i had exactly that and sent me to the orthotics dept at the hospital where they gave me some splints to wear (mainly at nightime) although they didnt really help that much they did ease it slightly. unsure about the other numbness you are experincing
