Is one baby enough?

God that sounds a bit of a thread title! I've only just had my DD (23 Jan) but have already got my mother on my case about limiting my family to just one child.
She thinks more than one would be a disaster, for my marriage, my finances and emotional well being. It's nothing to do with my age: 37.
While I had a difficult time during DD's birth I do feel that at some point I may want to have another.
Am wondering why my mum, who is an only child, is feeling so strongly about this. She had two children herself? xx

For some people one is enough, but I should imagine it would be something that you and your dp decide, not your mother.

Have you asked her why she feels so strongly?

What exactly does it have to do with her? It's your body and your life.

LoveActually, you may have come across it already but there's a section on one-child families under Being a Parent. There are posts there by who have one child by choice, one child not by choice, people who can't decide whether to go for more, people who thought they might have one but had more in the end, etc. etc.

and yes, it's not up to her! While she's probably feeling protective of you if you had a difficult time, that's no excuse for her to be talking to you in these terms.
