What should I see on 7 week vaginal scan?

I had a missed miscarriage in April last year I was told at dating scan at 9 weeks but did not miscarry until 15 weeks. Had some problems with cervical erosion and bleeding since then too. I have recently found out I am pregnant again (5 and half weeks now) . I have booked in for a scan at 7 weeks and would like to know if I should be able to see heartbeat at that point. I am so concerned about losing another one so I need to make sure that everything is OK this time. Can anyone offer me any advice?

I had an internal one at 6 weeks and saw a pulsating baked bean!

Good luck, I hope that everything works out

At 7+4 I had a scan- abdominal and transvaginal.

Saw the baby (11mm across) with little flickering heartbeat.

I had a scan at 7 weeks and there was a bean with a heartbeat. Good luck

When I say baby I mean you know, a blob with a heartbeat.

What a beautiful blob though.

I had a scan (abdominal though) at 6+5 and saw 9mm bean and pulsating heart. Good luck

I had a 6/7wk vaginal scan for ds2 following an ectopic pregnancy and I saw a grain of rice with a fluttering heartbeat. Felt strangely honoured to have seen him that microscopic.

I had one at 7 weeks and did see a little bean with heartbeat in the middle - but the woman did say "oh you're in luck, you can't always see the heartbeat at this stage". So if you can't it isn't necessarily bad news. Good lick.

Good lick! you know what I mean...

To be honest, I would wait a week and have a scan at 8 weeks. If you see a heartbeat in a fetus that is 8 week size, then you have a 98% chance of it all being well. I don't think the odds are quite as good at 7 weeks - but I don't know what they are I'm afraid. Also, at 7 weeks, if your dates are a little bit out, it might be a tiny bit early to see a heartbeat, which could lead to a lot of unnecessary worry.

Thank you for all your help. I feel a little more confident this time round as I am having very strong pregnancy symptoms whereas last time I didn't feel pregnant at all. x

7 weeks is hit and miss - I never saw any of my babies heartbeats until 9 weeks + (even transvaginal) I have a retroverted uterus.

I been for a scan today, 6-7 weeks as I have been having brown discharge, they saw a heartbeat but only a slow one which isnt very good I think, have to go back next week, said may end up as miscarriage or could go the other way, going to be a very long week, however, not going on Friday 13th, told them would go the following Monday.

MKG · 06/02/2009 13:25

I had one at 7 weeks with ds2. They couldn't see anything with an abdominal, so they used the vaginal probe. Then I saw a heartbeat and all was good.

Sorry top hear what you are going thru mcfc67...I know from experience that this one week wait is torture. Keeping everything crossed for you xx

I had a mmc with my first pregnancy detected at an 8 week scan. So when I got pg again this time, was very worried about going through the same thing. I wanted to scan around all the "milestones" of my mmc to check if the same thing was happening - mmc was detected at 8 weeks but foetus had died around 6 weeks so those 2 dates were important for me. Did my first scan at 6 + 2 (vaginally), saw very distinct heartbeat - foetus looked like a little tadpole with a huge heart beating away rapidly. But was also quite sure of my dates as used OPKs. Then did another at 8 (vaginal again) and then 11 weeks (abdominal), before the "official" 12 week scan. The good thing at 8 weeks is that if you see a heartbeat, you have less than 2% chance of mc (and less than 1% at 12 weeks) so is very comforting. Still get nervous even though now at 24 weeks have got a visible and growing bump, can feel baby kick, so don't need to keep running for another reassurance scan every time I get nervous. Good luck and hope all goes well.

I saw heartbeat at scan which dated me 5 plus 4. Subsequent scans put me a week back so the heartbeat was actually seen (trans vaginally) at 4 weeks or so. Good Luck.
