Can you take cough medicine when pregnant?

They all seem to say to consult a doctor? I don't want a doctors appointment just to say if I can take cough mixture! I have a few different ones in the cupboard I think. I don't usually bother but I just want some sleep!

Would be grateful if anybody knows the answer.

I don't htink so. Do you have any honey and lemon? Make up a drink with hot water, honey and lemon if you can

Cough medicine is shite anyway - it only works for the 3 seconds its in your throat!

Poor you

You can take the honey and glycerine type ones as they don't contain anything nasty.

same as mama G
was also going to say honey and hot water, hot blackcurrant, a couple of paracetamol if you are desperate.
Save the cough meds for stripping paint - its not much use for anything else

btw I used these things when pg, but double check that they havent changed. They can be bought in health food / herbal shops, and morrisons supermarket. they work great for me!

I concur with the above. Honey, Lemon & Glycerin from Boots but there isn't another one that's safe to take. And that's crap to be honest.

Oh ok . i don't have any honey in the house as we don't use it for anything else. Oh well.

I deffo agree with GW, Ricola are excellent, I have never tried anything so effective and because they are herbal they are safe to take, I didnt have the coff during pg but did just after and as it was 1st vd, the old incontincence had set it
I no know why pelvic floors are so important

sadly just the glycerin ones are ok to use. I had a terrible cough for around 2 weeks over Christmas and that was all that the chemist said I could take. I did have lots of hot ribena though which helped a bit.
Hope you feel better soon
