I took my holiday before I started my maternity

They should be able to give you your whole holiday entitlement in one block if you are definetly going to be off for the rest of the financial year. I am going to do the same as I intend to leave at the end of May.

so would i be able to leave at the time that i was going to but officially tart maternity leave a month later, if that makes any sense?

Yeah, that should be right. For example, I have two weeks annual leave to take before baby is born, so I am going to take that and when it ends, I start my maternity leave straight away. Your HR department should set you right-they put it all in writing for me and also provided guidance on the whole mat leave/annual leave scenario.

Hi there,
you really need to talk to HR as contracts may differ widely. I work in the NHS but for 2 different trusts and they had different policies. I ended up having to take a grievance out to get my annual from one trust (successfully). Don't forget that you should also accrue annual leave whilst on mat leave. The problem can come in taking your accrued leave if it has rolled in to the next financial year (which if you start mat leave in June and take a year off, it would) as some companies/trusts will only let you carry 1 week forward despite the fact that you have accrued 5+!
Off to HR with you then!
