How to calculate due date with irregular cycle?

Does anyone know how I could calculate my due date?

Last AF was 9th November, BFN 25th December, BFP 2nd Feb (with conception indicator test, which showed 2-3 weeks)

Everywhere I look says from last AF but obviously that isn't the case for me, so stuck for ideas! Shall I just wait for a scan? Also, who offers me these scans and when?

I'm a total novice

from my experience (and bear in mind my latest pregnancy was 8 years ago!) you make a doctors appointment and that gets you in the system and then you get sent your checkup appointments and booking in with midwife and scans appointment etc.

Thanks fruit - I was sent for a blood test today so I guess Dr will put wheels in motion when the results come back.

The dates according to your last af will prob be way out if you have a irregular cycle like i have.

My lmp was 22june which should make me 33 weeks pg but when i got my scan it put me back over 3 weeks im 29+5weeks pg now they will go with your lmp untill your scan then they will adjust the dates the earlier the scan the more accurate the date they get.

my due dates have been 29march,4 April,18April and now 21April!!

Me too Minx - very long cycle (45 days) and can't be sure when I conceived. Date by LMP put me one month further on than scan EDD! Conception dates can vary - especially with long / irregular cycles, best to wait for the scan.

You'll have to wait for a scan to be sure - because of your uncertain dates your midwife may send you for an early dating scan to confirm, if not you will have to wait till the 12 week scan which will be calculated from your lmp. If you can't wait (like most of us!!) you can pay for a scan privately, they're about £75. check out on the internet whats available locally to you.
I'm in a similar situation although I know when my lmp was - I think it was a 'pretend' one cos I reckon I;m a lot further gone (this is my second pg) - I'm currently waiting for my scan date in the post - and just hoping its sooner rather than later!

Just done a quick google for private scans, have a look at TheBirthCompany.com, babybond.com and babypremier.co.uk to find a centre near you. Also check out baby centre's advice on early scans www.babycentre.co.uk/pregnancy/antenatalhealth/testsandcare/privatetestsexpert/

Thanks all for your advice, it's really put my mind a rest. I'll try and wait but I may have to book that early scan

I had a dating scan that put me at 8 and a bit weeks - my lmp was 4 months earlier, so I could have conceived any time

Generally (If I recall correctly) no matter how long your cycle you usually ovulate 14 days before the date of your next period IYSWIM. So For a 45 day cycle you would have ovulated around day 31. Of course, you have irregular cycles like me, so it's harder to pinpoint the time.

Most places send you for an NHS ultrasound if you are in our position, so go to a doctor and see what they say.

Congratulations

Thanks I've just been for blood tests so will go to Dr for results and ask then. I was scheduled for an ultrasound on 12th Feb to check if I had PCOs - should I go ahead with that apt? Is it the same thing as a dating scan?

That's what I've got. They would be scanning your ovaries, taking measurements of them and checking for any cysts - so not the same as a dating scan although using the same equipment IYSWIM. It would be worth keeping the appointment to find out if you do have a cyst but I would let them know you are pregnant. They might be able to do both tests at once if you're lucky.

Minxie1977 · 05/02/2009 12:07

I'll def do that, thanks. If I have cysts, will it effect things?

YouKnowNothingoftheCrunch · 05/02/2009 12:16

I'm not sure. I suppose it would depend on growth and size - but they'll be able to give you a better idea of what to expect (I have a PCOS diagnosis, insofar as I have never had any cysts, just symptoms). Why don't you give them a call today, or go see your GP, to see if you can get some info?

Minxie1977 · 05/02/2009 17:48

Thanks - I have apt for tomorrow

YouKnowNothingoftheCrunch · 06/02/2009 10:15

Hope your apt is going/went well.

Minxie1977 · 06/02/2009 15:21

Yes - all good - am DEF PG Blood test says so!

Dr advised me to go for the PCOs scan and treat that as seperate issue. She also dictated a letter to get me seen for Early Dating Scan and midwife.

It all seems a bit more real now
