Sharp shooting pains in vagina around 12 weeks?

I'm starting to get really worried. Been having very short but sharp shooting pains in my vagina the last couple of days. Sometimes they're quick sharp pains, at other times just twinges. It's very localised pain, not in abdomen. Have no cramping or bleeding. Am nearly week 12.

Early weeks I had menstrual mild cramping which they say is womb growing but that's gone for weeks and weeks so this is all new and different. Am obviously worried and would love to hear others' experiences, good or bad....

Do you mean like in your cervix (or feel in that area?) In both pg (am 21.5 weeks) I got them like someone was sticking a needle high up in my vagina/cerix area.

MW said normal but ha no explaination WHAT it is. DS is 2 years. I am just ignoring them this pg.

I had that early on in both pregnancies. It's really annoying I just put it down to the many wonders of pregnancy if you do find out what causes it let us know! Good luck!

Hi, hmm I don't think it's that high up to be cervix. Am wondering if could be an infection....or worse, of course.

Oh that's good to know you also had it cherrysunday and that it was nothing bad. Do you remember how early you had it? In the very early weeks 4-7 I had cramping and that's something GP warned about and said it's just the womb growing and changing but this is definitely different.

ooh yes I had these with my pregnancies. red hot poker is how I used to describe them, they sometimes if I was midsride would make me walk a bit funny, which was quite embarrasing when walking through a waiting room

I had this with both last pg and this time around. Mw said that is was likely to be ligament stretching around the uterus that could be referring into the vagina area. It also happened much later on, but this is baby pushing on pelvic floor so you may have it to look forward to later on in your pg too!

Does it feel very hot and swollen on the outside at all too? The mound bit where the front of your pants go - sorry, there is probably a technical name for that bit, but it escapes me - pregnancy brain,eh?!

If it does, it could possibly be very early signs of SPD Im sorry to tell you. I had exactly the same thing with DD and if the pain is similar or your getting other niggles in your hips/pelvis, try to see your midwife asap to get referral to a physio. I didnt for a few weeks & really suffered & made it tens times worse because I was doing all the wrong things.

Thanks all!! What a great place this is. I'm not sure these pains are quite as bad as some of you describe, they definitely don't stop me walking or anything and no, I have no symptoms outside. Though SPD had crossed my mind too. But it seems to be more twingling and occasionally shooting pain for nanosecond. My mw is useless so no point asking her

I have been pregnant 7 times (4 mc) and have had these short, sharp, shooting pains in the cervix area in every pregnancy - the successful as well as the unsuccessful. I mentioned it to a consultant once who said they were very, very unlikely to be due to an infection. He said an infection would be incredibly painful and more constant. I had these pains from 5 weeks or so and they carried on until my dcs were born. I didn't get SPD.

This is really weird, i have been getting exactly the same thing, which is why i did a search on this. i dont recall getting these twinges with DS so thats why im a little worried. seems they are quite common though and all to do with everything stretching inside.

I have been having shooting pains up my vagina and I am really worried about it. I have had 2 miscarriages in the past and wonder if this is my cervix contracting I do remember having something similar in my other pregancies.

I am 6 1/2 weeks preg and really worried about this. I have still had sickness today and breast still sore but what could be causing this.

I spoke to early pregnancy unit and gp and they say oh nothing to worry about but I am concerned obviously its a bit painful, its not constant but I don't think I can deal with another miscarriage.

did it get better at the end?
i started to experience the same(about 9 weeks pg).
its like a sort of pulsing pain , it happens quite a few time in a row then nothing for maygbe 30 min or so...and its sort of the back wall of the vagina?
was that the same for yous???

I have it too! 13 weeks... But they seem to be... external almost, not high up near the cervix.

I too had this at 12 weeks and have them off and on since also sometimes like a dull ache. My scans were all ok but I seem to have my stretchy pains up there rather than my abdomen!

Thanks, neolara, for sharing your experience! I have been pregnant 4 times total. The first two times, I had the sharp pain in the cervix area only towards the end of the pregnancy when the baby was big enough to put pressure on the area, but not at the beginning.

I have experienced cervix twinges beginning at around 5 wks in both the third and fourth pregnancies. The third pregnancy ended in a miscarriage at around 6 wks 4 days. I'm in my 4th pregnancy at the 7th week and am experiencing them again so I'm a bit nervous. I haven't had the brown/red spotting that I had in pregnancy 3, though, so hopefully that's a good sign.

I am 9 1/2 weeks pregnant and started having these pangs last night for the first time. Was seriously panicking about it, hence looking it up on here. At work just now and trying to work through the same pains (noone at my work knows I am pregnant yet). I was convinced I had an infection of some sort but am thinking of going to A&E tonight just to be sure.
I live in Spain and they're slow at best here at the health clinic, despite my partner ringing this morning to say he felt it was urgent I were seen.
First timer, so everything is scary and I was concerned this meant miscarriage... reassured by your messages, so thanks... fingers crossed.

Did your pregnancy end up being healthy? I’m having the same problem today at 10 weeks 4 days. They’ve been happening since around 2:30am and I’m worried..

I had shooting cramp type pains. I text my midwife who promptly called me and said as long as discharge didn’t smell, it didn’t hurt when I wee’d and I didn’t have pain in kidney area it’s just one of those weird pregnancy symptoms. She did tell me I could take in a wee sample if I stayed worried though

Oh snap @kimlyv, mine started yesterday evening. I'm 10 weeks exactly today and although it is nowhere near a period type pain it's like a throbbing/poking pain down there!

It went away for me after, so I wouldn’t worry too much!
