Pregnancy symptoms stopped at nine weeks - so worried

Hi lovely Mumsnetters. This has to be the best Mum (and Dad's) site anywhere so I've come here this morning after an upsetting experience.

I'm 9 weeks +3 days pregnant and have just turned 40 years old. Three days ago my preganancy symptoms (acute nausea and sickness, very sore breats, exhaustion etc) just vanished and I'm feeling completely normal now. I have no cramping or bleeding.

I have one four-year-old daughter and have had three previous miscarriages including a missed miscarriage about a year ago. The last time I miscarried the same thing happened - all my symptoms just stopped. Three days later I began to miscarry.

With this (very much wanted) pregnancy I have had an early scan, due to bad abdominal pain in week 6, but a heartbeat was found and everything looked ok.

I called my out-of-hours GP service for advice this morning and our local early pregnancy unit called back an hour later. I described my situation exactly as above - the response I received was "So what are you worried about? I can't tell you if you're miscarrying or not. If you're that worried go to A&E."

I don't know what else I expected, and I am probably living in a mist of paranoia having lost three prior pregnancies, but I feel really upset by the so-called "advice" I received. I now feel foolish about going to A&E about something that seems so trivial to an expert at hospital.

We are meant to be going away for a long weekend and I am torn. I am so afraid of miscarrying while we are away but don't want to disappoint my family either. My next scan is not for another three weeks. Sorry for the long post. There are many people here in much more difficult situations than mine but I am so confused and worried. This baby is so longed for.

Thanks for "listening". Just had to write this down somewhere I knew that people would understand. x x x

@DrSushi you are absolutely right, I have read this thread and some of these babies will now be 12, truly amazing and gives everyone comfort when the anxieties of pregnancy get the "better of us". Hope all goes well with you. 👍

BooBooVictoria · 15/05/2020 10:04

DrSushi I'm praying all is well with you and that your scan goes well 🙏💖 sending all the love & baby dust in the universe. I'm also in a very similar place to you. I am currently 9 weeks 2 days pregnant and all my symptoms have disappeared. I had minor brown spotting last night with no pain or cramping but no spotting this morning 🙏 . I am absolutely beside myself, I'm 38 and have been trying for a baby for 11 years, I have a diagnosis of complete tubal blockage (both tubes), diminished ovarian reserve, a small fibroid and functional cysts on my ovaries so our only option was IVF..... we had 4 rounds five years ago, all failed and one ended in a silent miscarriage. Yet a miracle has happened and I've naturally fallen pregnant (to our delight & utter shock!), begged for a scan at 6weeks 2days as we we're convinced it would be eptopic but for the grace of god we saw our baby, in the right place with a heartbeat 🥰 . Yet now after the spotting and lack of symptoms I'm absolutely heartbroken and beside myself, I just can't loose our little miracle. I'm currently led in bed with swollen eyes & a heavy heart waiting for the EPU to ring me back as I phoned last night.
Reading all these comments has really given me a little hope to hold on to x you are all such brave & kind souls, thank you so much for reaching out and sharing your stories xxx

DrSushi I really am praying everything goes well and I would love to know how you get on. Big hugs 🤗🙏💖🙏💖🙏 xxxx

Hello @booboovictoria so sorry your feeling so worried its such a difficult time. I had this at 9 weeks and was so worried as I had no pregnancy symptoms at all. I had a scan at 10 weeks and all was absolutely fine but in my head I had thought it was bad news. Sometimes our bodies take a break from the symptoms. Mine came back for a week at 11 weeks and I am 13 weeks now and don't have any again. So confusing. But it doesn't always mean bad things. I hope all works out OK and you can rest easy xxx😉❤️

BooBooVictoria · 15/05/2020 12:09

Hello @Cmacq32 thank you for your response, it really has made me feel more positive about things. I think my minds just on overtime thanks to hormones and my history. I've actually just booked a private scan for tomorrow, the EPU still haven't returned my call and feeling a little let down by them following my pleaful phone call last night. Thank goodness for mumsnet and all you amazing ladies. Once again thank you for your reply, it really has helped my anxious mind xxxx 🤗

BooBooVictoria · 15/05/2020 12:11

@Cmacq32 forgot to say so pleased your pregnancy is going well and you've got over the 12wk, I can imagine that is a huge relief. Thank you and big hugs to you & bump xxxx

Cmacq32 · 15/05/2020 12:23

I had a private scan and they were super, glad you got one sorted. I actually have my 12 week scan today and too am anxious, I think it's a little self protection preparing for bad news especially if you have been here before. Try to do some things that relax you today like a warm bath and some baking... Will take your mind off things. Good luck and let me know how you get on tomorrow xx

BooBooVictoria · 15/05/2020 12:59

Ahhhh keeping everything crossed that all is well at your scan today, the anxiety before is just horrid isn't it but hopefully everything should just be perfect 🙏🥰 x I will let you know how I get on tomorrow xxxxx

Cmacq32 · 16/05/2020 11:58

All went great with me at the scan thanks. I hope all goes well today, fingers crossed for you xx

BooBooVictoria · 16/05/2020 19:21

Ahhh this is brilliant news 🥰 x I'm so relieved to that we have just seen our little bean and everything perfect so far 🙏 xxx thank you for your reassurance the other day, it really did help this anxious mind. Big hugs to you & your little bean xxxx

Cmacq32 · 16/05/2020 19:44

Fab news!! 🥰🥰😍🥰❤️❤️ Even if you this happens again remind yourself that this is normal for your journey and try not to think of it as bad news.... The wait till 12 weeks will be easier now so try to look forward to it xxx

PollyOaks · 18/06/2020 15:52

I am also in the same boat, 9w5d and about 3 days ago my symptoms seem to have disappeared I feel almost normal. Had an early scan at 6w6d and everything was how it should be but after a mmc last year not discovered until 11 weeks I can't help but worry. No available appointments anywhere for a private scan either as I live in Northern Ireland and private clinics are limited over here. Thoughts and prayers to everyone here x

Any advice please? I’m 9.5 weeks pregnant and paranoid that something’s wrong. I’ve been lucky enough to have only mild nausea and no other real symptoms, although I’m very emotional this week so hormones are definitely at play! My worry is that I’m feeling less sick this week and I’m terrified that my 12-week scan will show a missed miscarriage. I was thinking of paying for a private scan but I live in Wales and we’re about to go into lockdown for three weeks. Is a private scan considered an essential service i.e. will I be allowed to have one? The thought of having to wait another few weeks for my NHS scan (I worry it’ll be delayed with covid and the lockdown) and then possibly finding out I’ve had a miscarriage (and I worry my husband won’t be allowed at the appointment during lockdown) is on my mind a lot.

Is anyone else in a similar position – or have any advice?

I’m 35 and this is my first pregnancy. To make things worse, I have to go on jury service next week, which will make making appointments quite difficult. I’d hoped they’d let me off as I’m pregnant, but nope!

Thanks in advance. x

TheDaydreamBelievers · 22/10/2020 08:12

@mssgrees - I'm 8+4 (1st pregnancy) and have had pretty much no symptoms the entire time. My mum was the same and had two completely healthy pregnancies and no MCs. It is so hard - I worry about MMC too and still humming and hawing about whether to get a private scan before the 12week

Piperdream · 23/10/2020 12:28

@Mssgrees I’m exactly the same I’m nine weeks tomorrow and symptoms have more or less gone other than an odd hour or so where I have sore bobs or feel a little nauseous. Iv had a scan at six weeks and so a heart beat but not booked in work midwife yet. I’m supposed to do telephone booking tomorrow but after five misscarages two being mmc iv just contacted epic and they booked me a scan Monday. I’m also in wales so I’d give them a ring and see what they say x

mssgrees · 23/10/2020 12:32

Hi @piperdream I'm so sorry you've had such sad experiences in the past. I'm really glad you've sorted a scan. I've managed to book a private scan for Sunday. Hopefully we'll both get peace of uind soon. x

mssgrees · 23/10/2020 12:35

@TheDaydreamBelievers thanks for replying. It's a tough time, isn't it? I've managed to book a private scan for Sunday just so that I have a better idea of what's what. If you can afford it, perhaps it would be worth you getting one to feel more assured? I guess some of us just don't get symptoms! x

TheDaydreamBelievers · 23/10/2020 12:48

@mssgrees my nhs scan is in a week and a half so just trying to hold on to my socks until then!!! Hope your scan goes well

Piperdream · 24/10/2020 19:07

@mssgrees how u feeling today? good luck for tomorrow. Where did u book u private scan to. X

mssgrees · 27/10/2020 09:27

Sorry, only just saw this. I had the scan on Sunday (Window to the Womb in Swansea – there's one in Cardiff too) and baby is fine. So relieved! Lovely to see him/her wriggling around. How are you feeling? Do you think you'll book a scan? x

mssgrees · 27/10/2020 09:29

@TheDaydreamBelievers How are you feeling? Glad your scan is coming up soon? My private scan showed that everything was fine. Thank goodness! x

TheDaydreamBelievers · 27/10/2020 12:44

Glad to hear it @mssgrees! Feeling okay, counting down the days till the scan!

Piperdream · 27/10/2020 13:20

@mssgrees I’m so glad everything went ok. I booked one on Sunday as I was expecting bad news and my partner couldn’t make my Monday one. It was good news I so was expecting the worst ,so it was such a relief. And I’m a little further along to so that was good one less week, the hospital scan did find a small bleed. But they will keep any eye on it so I’m trying not to worry to much. ha we be just gotta be great full that we don’t have awful symptoms .

BBP30 · 23/07/2021 02:20

Hi ladies, looking for some positive stories, I have had two previous missed miscarriages . One at 6 weeks and another at about 8 weeks. I am now 9+3 weeks but have lost symptoms around 8, I did have an 8 week scan and everything looked great, my next one is at 10 weeks only next week but is there any positive stories when it comes to symptoms leaving and baby still being okay? I also had a UTI last week and took antibiotics but worried that may effect the baby also, very anxious. Any stories similar would be great xx

Ronnyrambler · 22/06/2022 13:28

Hi @BBP30 hiw did your scan go? My symptoms stopped at 9 weeks and am now 10 + 1. Hoping scan on Saturday will be ok.
