Am I Wrong To Be Upset?

Went for a check up today and was given an unexpected prescription, went over to the local chemist but they didn't have the item in stock so DP drove me to a large Boots. I didn't have my maternity card with me and when I gave it to the woman having ticked the maternity option at the back she told me I would have to pay, as "how did she know I was pregnant, I could just be really obese?!"

I am 32 weeks and at 5ft 2 feel huge anyway, I burst out crying and went to the car...am i being stupid?!?

They do need the number for their records...

dizzydixies · 27/01/2009 21:06

but bakewell my chemist just ticked it even though I didn't have my card, there must be means and ways of getting about it?

she may have been just doing her job but there are nicer ways to go about it - she was a cheeky mare

newmum just go back with your card, ask for your prescription and if it is her again be brave, get her name and make a complaint about the way she spoke to you

Qally · 27/01/2009 21:39

I've often forgotten my card - in a large Boots as well - and they have always, always let me have the item anyway. And her attitude is downright appalling. What horrible thing to say to anyone, let alone a very pregnant woman. I'd be bloody upset as well.

onepieceofbrusselssprout · 27/01/2009 21:42

I think (in the small print) there is either a note on the actual prescription or displayed in the pharmacy to say that they will let people have the item if they have ticked an exemption, BUT if you are telling porkies then your sin will find you out! (I am paraphrasing the last bit obviously)

Sounds like she was being really unpleasant to you newmum.

newmumtobe84 · 27/01/2009 21:49

My DH went back with the card (I was too embarrassed/upset - I am a wimp!) and he said the man he gave it to didn't even look at the card! I was obviously giving off the wrong vibes at the time - thank you for the fury on my behalf, makes me feel less insane!!

I was given a prescription for folic acid without having to pay, she just ticked the box and said ''well it's obvious that you're pregnant or else you wouldn't have been prescribed it''.
I know it's totally different circumstances but it just shows that they don't have to have the cirtificate.
Whilst we're on the subject, how do actually get my pregnancy exeption cirtificate? I'm only 17 weeks can I get it yet?

cali · 27/01/2009 21:54

I got a prescription once when I had forgotten my card but pharmacist said that they didn't actually need to see it but I'm sure they said they checked up during audits that people weren't abusing the system.

Did have dd2 in my arms who was only a few months at the time though.

She sounds horrible NewMum and should not have said what she said to you, do you feel up to complaining about her?

ellenjames · 27/01/2009 21:54

can i ask too how u get this as cant rem from the others but i am 32 weeks pregnanat with dc3 and still haven't got mine.

cali · 27/01/2009 21:57

I was given a form signed and stamped from my midwife at my booking appt which I then sent off, got card when I was about 10 weeks with dd2.

dd1 didn't get it for ages as nobody bothered to tell me.

ellenjames · 27/01/2009 22:02

Cheers will make app with my midwife.

SatHereSitting · 27/01/2009 22:04

Hunny and EllenJames you should have received yours by now, you usually get it shortly after your booking in appointment. I'd get on to your midwife if I was you, it's yours by right and it saves you a fortune in Gaviscon

xxhunnyxx · 27/01/2009 22:26

Thanks I'm seein mw in a couple of weeks so I will ask her then. As far as Gaviscon is concerned I'm more of a fan of fruit flavoured Rennies, they taste like Refreshers mmmmm
Yeah they prob should have mentioned it at my booking in clinic, they didnt bother telling me half the things they should have, didn't even tell me that they'd booked my next scan, just stuck a slip in my maternity notes which I obviously should have instinctively known was there! Useless! Sorry I'm on a rant now lol

ciara07 · 27/01/2009 22:32

i am 23 weeks pregnant with my second and during both pregnancies i have never been asked for my cert at the chemist or at the dentist...she attitude is shocking, i would write in and complain.

i think you can also reclaim any prescriptions that you have paid for before you recieve your cert or if you have forgot it, as long as you keep your reciept.

SatHereSitting · 27/01/2009 22:33

I understand Hunny, my midwife is the same. I'm expected to know everything and could start a thread on the things she's forgotten to tell me or explained wrong!! It's lucky I'm pretty knowledgable due to MN otherwise I could have made loads of mistakes about things.

And newmum I'd complain if I was you, that kind of behaviour is completely unacceptable and very poor customer service, I'd have wanted to lamp her

BodyBagBastard · 27/01/2009 22:44

I think you lot must have your hormones running high.

write and complain indeed.
yes you didn't need to show the the card, you just tick and sign the box then they mark the prescription as evidence not seen, then if there is any doubt over your exemption it will be checked.

you need to chill.

BodyBagBastard · 27/01/2009 22:44

as for i would have wanted to lamp her

SatHereSitting · 27/01/2009 23:13

Why the bodybag? I wasn't meaning I'd want to lamp her for refusing the prescription, I meant for bascically implying that the op was fat not pregnant. Highly unprofessional and just what you want to hear off some jumped up shop assistant when you're already feeling abit self concious.

BodyBagBastard · 27/01/2009 23:26

don't you think your going a bit ott?

Bit rude to call her a jumped up shop assistant, I would imagine she would have had to complete quite alot of training to be doing that job.

SatHereSitting · 27/01/2009 23:30

Still no need for her to be rude bodybag, but you're right wanting to lamp her would be a very OTT reaction, I wasn't being serious but I will choose my words more carefully in the future

happybeingme · 27/01/2009 23:33

What a rude women. I have been asked everytime for mine with exception of today. I asked the pharmicist if she wanted it and she said no I can see your preganant.
