Come join our merry (talkative) band of ladies who lunch - feel sick - are getting fatter - sleep deprived or run off their feet with babies! Some of us suffer all of the above - while trying to retain an air of calm and mystery

All we ask is you play nicely, eat cake and indulge in the occasional gossip and moan about our ills....or anything else that we can think of.

We're like grumpy old women....only not so grumpy...

Tee2072 · 27/01/2009 17:31

Oh, we're kinda grumpy!

Thanks for starting the new thread, JJ!!

BonzoDoodah · 27/01/2009 17:48

you forgot to mention chocolate and crisps

FloriaTosca · 27/01/2009 18:20

OOOhhh...New Thread!!!!...scary how quickly you we seem to run through them

ermintrude13 · 27/01/2009 18:30

and don't leave out Gaviscon! I'm swigging it from the bottle like a dypso in the park

mrsboogie · 27/01/2009 18:36

oh blimey ladies -just spotted this new thread - we are a chatty lot!

Did fab pavement pounding brisk walk into town with D in buggy today - rather than my usual lolloping and heffalumping along. Tomorrow is the 3 jabs day so not much fun to be had.

Took your advice jw and purchase some teeny fruity jars to see if D took to them any better. He still had a look of horror on his fce any time it was brought ne. Can anyone remind me what's normal for an initial reaction to the introduction of food? I can't for the life of me remember but I'm sure DS1 took to it more easily.

Oh blimey John Updike has died and in other literary news the Costa prize is being given out tonight I have my fingers crossed for Sebastian Barry who was robbed of the Booker I reckon.

johnworf · 27/01/2009 19:04

bonzo been to TK Maxx and half the price!!!

Mrsb think all babies have their own reaction but do remember that some like bitter and some like sweet. Taste develops in utero.

mrsboogie · 27/01/2009 19:07

best try him with some curry in that case...

jeanjeannie · 27/01/2009 20:52

Hahahah @ Curry flavour mrsB go on - give him a nice bit of vindaloo - that should get his tast buds flying. Not all LOs enjoy food first off. I know Verity is much less keen than Iris ever was.

Beauty News - I've painted my nails - first time since i've had the girls They're sparkly pink. The nails that is - not the girls

johnworf · 27/01/2009 21:36

Nice colour there JJ. I daren't paint mine as it would attract attention to my cracked knuckles that have been bleeding again I need a shower. That's as far as my beauty regime goes these days. Can't be bothered tonight so will have to wait until the morn. I'll go to bed stinking. I bought myself a japanese back scrubber that looks like a long pipecleaner with ropes on the ends. It could take the paint off an old bath but apparently it's good for you.........................

OOOh curry baby food K wasn't keen at first but I kept on trying. Just a couple of spoons at first. She loves her fruity cereal but most of all her porridge with banana (and it makes her poo black - double bonus).

Well I'm really cheesed off with myself tonight. I bought a nice grobag, size 0-6 months for K and brought it home, washed it. Guess what? don't bloody fit her Too small. And it says to 18lbs and I know she's not that heavy. Ah well, I'll put it on ebay with the rest of the stuff. Will get another on Thursday when I have lunch with DD#1.

Home alone tonight as DH is off playing bridge - with the UK champions no less. He's expecting a thrashing, then a good pasting, then they wipe the floor with him and then he gets his coat and comes home. Sounds like a great night to me I'm watching Crimewatch and scaring myself stupid. All the locks are on the door and I'm even cuddling up to the dog, not that he'd be any protection.

mrsboogie · 27/01/2009 21:51

well done jj you go girl! I keep thinking I should paint my nails. Maybe for the weekend!

I will persevere slowly with D - I'm not fussing about it - its just I'm wondering whether I shouldn't leave him 'til 6 months - but then gain what's to say he'll like the idea of this food business then either?

Isn't 0 - 6 months the smallest size in grobag jw? . I reckon we have missed the boat on that one too and D's will be too small.

Soup, soup, soup. Pea and Ham last night, red pepper and carrot tonight. Can you see my halo?

johnworf · 28/01/2009 06:55

mrsb the weight on the packaging says up to 18lbs. The next size up is 6-18 months which says once again on the packaging 'for a minimum weight of 18lbs' which she aint. So no idea how it all works. Think I'll just get the 6-18 months and if it doesn't fit, then we'll wait.

She's been a very good girl once again in her big cot. I was worried she wouldn't get herself to sleep as she's used to being rocked and was desperately thinking of other ways to get her to sleep then put her in it but no, she's happy to go on her own. With much wrestling a pig sounds and sucking her thumb, she's doing it by herself [beams]

I wouldn't fret about the weaning mrsb. They seem to do these things when they're ready and not before. He's fine on just milk until 6 months anyway. I'm really looking forward to K being off her baby formula as it gives her tremendous wind. Nutriprem 2 is renown for it - look on the Bliss website and you'll see many threads regarding it. Awful to see her writhing in pain

ermintrude13 · 28/01/2009 09:31

My babies used to like a Coconut and Veg Korma - must have been Hipp or Organix - a gentle pureed intro to curry. They can both happily eat Jalfrezi these days, and especially love it cold the next day.

As JW says, 6 months on milk only is absolutely fine if they're not showing interest in solids. I had to wean DS v quickly before leaving him at nursery because he wouldn't drink any sort of milk from any sort of receptacle apart from my BOOBIES ,and would have starved otherwise. He liked all fruit purees, most veg ones, and mushed up chicken dinner most of all . Baby D will start enjoying his grub soon, I'm sure.

mrsb well done on the soup bonanza. You don't eat it with half a loaf of buttered bread and a pound of grated cheese, do you? .

johnworf · 28/01/2009 09:55

arf @ ermintrude and her carb loaded bread Tis best way to eat soup though isn't it?

Didn't know that Hipp did a korma. Haven't seen that one. I'm still on the boxed Organix porridge and banana, the fruity cereal and I've a load of carrot, mash and sweet potato that I've frozen. I think K is just one of those babies that'll eat any old muck you put before her Apart from baby rice.

Tee2072 · 28/01/2009 10:22

Morning All.

Well, thank goodness, nausea seems to have passed again.

Ooh, painted nails, neat! I can never keep mine looking nice for more than about a day, so I just don't bother. I've got nice long nails, but I got lucky with my genetics on those and they naturally look like a French Polish. I already warned hubby, who loves them, that I would be cutting them all off in early June. Would hate to scratch the baby!

mrsb I've been told to not even start weaning until 6 months. That's the latest WHO guidelines. Of course, they'll change their minds in about 2 minutes!!

mrsboogie · 28/01/2009 10:24

well, I'm not going to start puréeing muck until he seems happy to swallow a few spoonfuls out of a jar without gagging dramatically or crying with his mouth firmly closed.

His older brother was raised on curry so I'm hoping for the same from D. Eventually.

Speaking of puréed muck - I am officially sick of soup - which is a shame because I am actually starting to feel the weight come off now.

Mr D slept went to bed last night at 7.30 and aside from waking for four feeds, he mostly spent the next 12 hours in bed. First time. He's like a Tasmanian devil now though - so I must go and entertain him.

Oh and yay Sebastian Barry won the Costa prize hurrah!

duchesse · 28/01/2009 10:36

Mornin' all! Feeling sick... More snacking than lunching going on here. Have midwife coming later. Didn't really have anything to say but wanted this thread to be in my active list so I don't have search for it on my iPhone!

hedgepig · 28/01/2009 11:19

wow duchess looking at web on your iphone that is well high tech. can you actually see enough on the screen? I have a blackberry from work and I have never got very far on trying to look at internet. I would go ahead with your build as you will have much less time after the baby is born.

JW the weight things on the grobags are to make sure the babies head isn't too small and could get pulled through the neck hole IYSWIM

O has just thrown up on me, must go and change......OH the joys of motherhood tr la la

duchesse · 28/01/2009 11:31

It's brilliant actually. It means I can take the dog for a walk without worrying about missing phone calls or emails about work. I'm actually on m usual 4 and a half mile forest jaunt right now, but have to keep stopping cos am out of breath.

johnworf · 28/01/2009 11:32

hedgepig yep I see what you mean but honestly, it's waaaay too small on her.

Different rules for weaning here just to complicate matters. Prem babies are 5-7 months actual age and K is coming up to 8 months actual now

johnworf · 28/01/2009 11:33

In fact she's 8 months today! woot!

hedgepig · 28/01/2009 11:57

8 months JW where has the time gone, I looked at her early pictures on you profile when I was looking at the new one the other day, she has done so well .

good walking duchess I am very impressed. I'm even more impressed you have reception I live in a village only a few miles from cambridge (so pretend rural rather than the real thing) and I have no reception at all, Pretty good when I'm working from home though as nobody bothers me.

I managed a Davina workout this morning, I am dead, no weight loss last week too many biscuits.

johnworf · 28/01/2009 12:14

omg hedgepig I take my hat off to you for doing the Davina. I haven't done it since last week when it nearly killed me. I had planned to do it this afternoon...but I'm looking for a diversion and I've found one cleaning the floors. Yep, I'm chicken.

We always get network coverage where I am. Afterall there's a mobile mast on nearly every house here

Thanks for nice words re K's progress. I forget myself how tiny she once was and have to remind myself sometimes. Never think of her as 8 months old though..always as corrected as afterall, that's how she looks and behaves atm. I'm sure it'll all even out in the mix. DSS was a 29 weeker and he's taller than quite a few of his class mates.

Tee2072 · 28/01/2009 12:40

Happy 8 Months Lady K! What a long way you've come!

JW is the corrected age based on what her due date was? Is that how it works? Just curious.

Well, all you losing weight ladies should take heart. Trousers that were loose last week are getting tight this week! I don't seem to have gained much weight by the scale, but my belly is definitely getting bigger! 20 weeks next week, half way there!!!

johnworf · 28/01/2009 12:48

Yes tee She was due 14th September but born 28th May. You're only 4 weeks away from where I was when I gave birth!

johnworf · 28/01/2009 12:49

sorry 5 weeks
