Hiya everyone
I was just wondering how far behind in growth is a baby that is IUGR?

I think it can vary from hospital to hospital, but you might get a better response from the Premature Babies thread - I tried on here for IUGR stuff but they really know their stuff!

My SIL's doctor was concerned when she appeared 2 weeks behind her due date - what has yours said?

I'm expecting IUGR, but haven't got that far yet (that would actually be a good outcome for me!)...

Good luck

An IUGR baby is counted as being on the 10th centile on growth or below. However before they reach that stage there are usually indicators they will be small for date babies. My own ds was born the size of a 29 weeker at 34 wks, but he was under the 2nd centile.

My dd was always small for dates all throughout my pregnancy and was suspected IUGR. Now that she is 5, it is apparent she is just constitutionally and physiologically small. She was on the 0.4th centile but steady growth on the line despite her early heart condition. IUGR did not play any part in her care after her birth.

Just wanted to share my dd's experience. Of course, not saying that it is in your case, Nicola.

My baby has IUGR - she is 13th centile - So not as small as some of the above - Am going for my 38week scan today when they will decide if they want to induce me...Scary!

Good Luck with your pregnancy, hope all goes well for you x

My son was IUGR. At every scan I had during pregnancy they predicted that he would be 9lbs plus then when I was about 38 weeks he stopped movinh much adn they diagnosed IUGR and got him out early. He was 5lbs 12 oz.

We had to stay in a week because of his low weight but he caught up quick and had made it to jsut under the 50th centile by 3 months.

If they are predicting a low weight based on scans I'd take it with a pinch of salt. Our predictions were way out.
