Clearblue conception indicator making me further on

Hi, anyone found the Clearblue pg test with conception indicator made them further along than they thought? At two weeks dpo it said 1-2 (morning wee), two days later (paranoid testing)it said 2-3 and I thought good stuff, but 24hrs later (well there was one left in the box!) it said 3+ and that result popped up quickly. That was technically 2wk and 3 days after CM disapeared (sorry TMI) and you know what it's like when you're an experienced 'tryer', you have a good idea of when you ovulated! I won't be 3 weeks dpo until 28th Jan. Am wondering if this is just a singleton pumping out lots of lovely hCG or...multiple? Anyone experience this? In the end I'll wait for the scan like everyone else but I've been trawling the net for remarks like this and found none so thought I'd ask the WWW community directly!! Many thanks PS would be happy with either, am just in the limbo phase of not having enough information to satisfy my racing newly pregnant mind.

There's a great website called pee on a stick.com or something similar, that has answers to almost every possible question about pregnancy tests. I'd def have a try on there.
I did a digital one that slightly overestimated how pregnant I was, I think the degree of confidence in the dating part of the test is quite a lot lower than the yes/no bit.
But anyhow, congrats!!!

1ofeach · 26/01/2009 22:33

Thanks Poppet45, so did you use the CB digital with conception indicator (mouthful!)? And it made you a week or so further along? Or is there another one out there? And how did you know it had overestimated - your calculations or a scan later on? I'll check out pee on a stick...

Sadly no info about these particular tests on Peeonastick.com

I did one of these at the beginning of my pg. It said I was a week less than I was... At 12 weeks scan the baby measured spot on for my dates. My thoughts are that the indicator of weeks bit of the test isn't too reliable...

mummy2joshuarileyandbump · 26/01/2009 22:59

I did one of these, 1st of all did a normal cheapy test from my local shop which gave me a BFP so i wanted to know how far along, it said 2-3 which according to the box said i was 4-5, when i went to the docs she estimated me at 7 weeks, when i told her about the conception indicator she said it was a gimmick really, i think it picks up on the amount of HCG an estimates...i think
Congratulations hun, i am currently 9 weeks and very excited

1ofeach · 26/01/2009 23:19

I think you're both totally right - it does just estimate. I just wondered how many people out there found that these estimates were useful/useless.

And mummy2joshuarileyandbump going by your nickname you're on preg #3? Me too! Have you expanded alarmingly in a short space of time? I'm beginning to think I won't need to announce it to the family!! Or am I just relaxing my gut because i feel i have an excuse

Am only 5 weeks along myself and can't believe I am just as nuts trying to get hold of information as I was for #1. Thought I'd have chilled out by now!

Iofeach, the clear blue one put me futher on than my dates,
and started getting big very quick found out I was having twins at 8weeks

mummy2joshuarileyandbump · 27/01/2009 00:40

Yes am on bump number 3! my youngest will be 1 next week so for me this is quite quick (eldest is 9 next week!) but I always said after youngest that if we decided to have another i would like to do it fairly quickly. We started talking about it 6 months ago and am now 9 wks (due 31st aug)...was a very big shock at 1st! I too have been doing the gut relax lol i'm convinced i'm showing already lol although i know i'm not! i'm still in shock myself but am sooo excited
It occured to me the other day that i am going to have to give birth again gulp
didnt have the greatest birth last time (well i say birth...it was after that was the problem for me, I had 5 unexplained fits! they thought it mite have been pre-ecalampsia but then ruled it out!) fingers crossed all will be well this time, previous to that i had a section which i realy dont want to go thru again as it was after a long and arduous labour!

i googled earlier about reliability of conception indicator and it came up with this:

How accurate is the Conception Indicator feature?

The Conception Indicator feature is 92%2 accurate in estimating the time since conception, when using first urine of the day. This is based on levels of hCG in the urine.

I still havent had a MW app yet, called her last week to get things moving but she told me she would be in contact in a couple of weeks which brings me pretty close to the 12wk mark for my dating scan. The only reason I know i am 9 weeks is because i was having shooting pains in my left hand side and a constant tummy ache so i went to the early pregnancy unit and they gave me a scan which showed me to be 8+3 (this was thursday just gone) I only thought i was only just 7 weeks!

Im keeping my fingers crossed this will be a girl as already 2 boys but i think i am destined to ive in a house full of males lol (poor me lol)

Diege · 27/01/2009 09:19

Hi . The conception indicator also put me into the 2-3 weeks category when I was technically 1-2 weeks (I knew when I ovulated so was pretty sure of my dates). I rang the helpline and they said it is very much an estimate, based on average HCG levels. If you actually look at the variation in HCG levels that different women can have when exactly the same days pregnant, you can see why such tests can often be quite 'out'. The helpline woman told me that you can easily allow a week or so either side (ie. you can be 2 weeks and get a 3 + reading)which put my mind at rest. I actually had a scan at 7 weeks which put me a few days ahead, but by 12 weeks scan was back to my dates.

My sister's a midwife and she says these tests drive them mad - people who've mc in the past worry that things aren't progressing if the the tests don't 'keep up', and women are even using them to find out who the father is .
Congratulations on your pregnancy

1ofeach · 27/01/2009 09:29

Wow I hope you have an easier pregnancy/birth this time mummy2joshuarileyandbump - although what's an easier birth hey?! I know what you mean, I only ever try to get pregnant, I never really hop into bed with DH thinking I'd love to give birth again lol!! Fingers crossed for a girl then but I'm sure you'll be happy whichever way it goes. I have one of each (hence my unimaginative nickname) and knew before each so this time I'm debating waiting for a surprise - but I'm an impatient old sod. Mine are 3 and 1. I came home with bags of toys the day I found out because I felt so guilty! Sorry kids, about to rock your little world. I think they'll be a help though (wishful thinking?) as my daughter loves to use all the wipes I buy to clean her dollies or the floor or her face, she's a little mother. And my son is old enough to genuinely help at times, bring me the nappies please, the kitchen roll please, the remote control please!

And yeah I found that statistic too, 92% accurate, but that still means it's wrong 8 times in every hundred so I think I have to admit what I already knew that the conception results are not something to lose sleep over and is just another thing to fill the time while you wait for your first blood test or scan.

And largeglassofred (are you torturing yourself with your nickname? or have you had the twins now? large red is my favourite too) thanks for the input. I guess in your case the test was accurate since you were producing two lots of hCG. Congratulations - how is/was a twin pregnancy/birth?

Thanks Diege! OMG if the helpline says the results can be a week either way - and they only go up to 3 weeks - then it's a pretty useless addition to a very accurate pg test. Thanks for that. This is actually helping because I can see the results I got really mean diddly squat so I'll relax and wait for early scan. Round tummy may be due to this being third time and so muscles aren't what they used to be - or maybe last night's curry?! Actually weight hasn't gone up it's just my shape that's changed. Only recently lost 4 stone so I can probably just 'see' small changes that I wasn't able to before

1ofeach I'm 17 weeks pregnant with the twins and missing my large glass of red very much, purhaps I should rename myself OneSmallGlassofRedEverySoOften

1ofeach · 27/01/2009 20:52

Good name! Congratulations on the twins, very exciting - is this your first pregnancy? Or have you been here before? You may find your tastes in wine go up in price. I always found that if I was only allowed one, it better be a good one!

LargeGlassofRed · 29/01/2009 21:45

Lol very true about the wine.
Twins will be number 4 and 5 .

teether · 03/05/2009 18:36

I think these conception indicators are a waste of time. I did a pregnancy test and got 1-2 weeks when i was actually one day short of 3 weeks -the reason being i am 100% sure of when i ovulated (i bled). I think they should completely abolish them as they really do cause so much frustration and anxiety.. Good luck girlsxx

Laui59 · 25/07/2009 17:46

LargeGlassofRed
Are you still around, need to ask you a few question on your indicator test as mine jumped from 1-2 to 3+ in 4 days?? did yours?? have expected twins before so just wondering??

HJefferies · 26/03/2010 13:49

I had 2 miscarriages last year and when I didn't start my period last week on my due date, I decided to do a pregnancy test. I used the Clear Blue Digital and got a positive result, which was great news. It also said that I was 1-2 weeks on the conception indicator. I have been doing a test almost every other day since then, because I want to see the indicator go up, hence indicating that my HCG levels are rising, and hopefully meaning that I am not going to have another miscarriage.

However, the test I did this morning, the "Pregnant" appeared quite quickly, and then after some time the conception indicator said "1-2 weeks". I would have thought by now that it would have increased to 2-3. Has anyone else had the same happen to them ?

I know that I am probably paranoid, doing all these tests, but I want peace of mind. I went to the doctors this week and they referred me to have blood tests, which I have to wait a week for the results, and the dr said that they will get the midwife to make an appointment. This hasn't happened yet, and I am very anxious to get things checked out, as I really don't want to lose this baby too.

I feel a little better after reading the stories here, about how unrealiable the conception indicator can be, and I should really go on the fact that it says I am "pregnant", but I will be doing another test tomorrow morning, to see if things have progressed. It is costing me a fortune, but hopefully it will be worth it.

hi ya just 2 let u kno i did the clear blue digi test the day b4 my period was due in sept last yr...the result came up pregnant and then the conception indicator came up 1-2 wks. i had bleeding and was sent 4 an early scan which said i had fallen pregnant at the beginning of august making me almost 6 wks. im now 33 wks and baby is fine. if u want my advice ignore it and dnt but any more. good luck. jen. xxx

HJefferies · 28/03/2010 17:05

Thanks Jen, I did end up doing another test today, and thankfully it said "2-3 weeks", so I am hoping that my HCG levels have rose, and fingers crossed that means that I wont have another mc.

elnmummy · 10/05/2010 12:17

Hi
Not sure if anyone is still reading this but I just did a CB and it came up pregnant 1-2 weeks

I got my BFP last Saturday 2 days before AF due. Started to bleed on Tuesday evening and have bed for 5 days. But still getting positive tests - my friend said that the CB digi isn't as sensitive as others and she got a negative on it when she bled and went on to miscarry.

Because my first pregnancy ended in miscarriage as a molar pregnancy I am being seen at the EPAU on Weds but that seems forever away.

We've been TTC #3 for a while now and so I know when I ov'd and know I conceived around 3 weeks ago so surely it should show as 2-3 weeks? I am driving myself mad. The bleeding to me indicates I have had a chemical pregnancy but the BFPs every day since and the nausea and other symptoms are confusing me. I know loads of people who've bed in pregnancy and had cramps etc and gone on to be fine. DH thinks I could be losing a twin as they run all down my mum's side of the family. But having been at the other end of the scale I know how it often ends too.

So Arrrrgggggghhhhhhhh....anyone got any more words of advice? Weds seems like soooo far away and I dont even think an internal scan will show much as I will only be about 5 weeks by then.

Thanks in advance
Abi
