Hiya mummies and bumps

This is my first post so be gentle. I just came on here because Ive googled like crazy on the subject and cant find much to be honest.

Im currently 32+2, yesterday morning so of my plug came away so l rang the hospital for reassurance. They told me to come in immedialtely which I was abit shocked at.

Anyways they put me on a heart n contraction monitor for an hour and gave me an internal and took swabs. The dr and midwife looked a little puzzled and muttered abit. Apparently I have a "very anterior cervix".....after some researching last night this looks the main reason they were so keen to give steroids to me yesterday and today later they want to give more and a growth scan.

They have really been trying to reassure me and play this down but obviously with the head being a little past 4/5ths paluible and the cervix being anterior would this mean Im looking to go into labour in the next week or so??

Any comments or info or experience I would really appreciate ladies, really want to prepare myself and know what to expect.

Roz xx

If I was you I would ask them again to be a bit clearer about what they think, and why. Sorry no personal experience but you are right that you need to know! I am sure someone will come along in a mo with some experience!

Hi

At 33 weeks I lost my plug and was told to go and be checked. I was totally engaged and 3cm dialated but not contracting. They kept me for a few hours and monitored me. They sent me home with promises to come back if contractions of anysort happened. DD was born @40+5.

Hehe that must of been a long wait!

Its the position of the cervix they are surprized at more the the plug going or baby being right down. Apparently its a sign of labour coming v soon??

Was yours the same though??

Know it's so scary what you're going through. Just want to say that if you do go into labour, the outcomes at this gestation are generally very good.

DD was born at 33+4 weeks and all was absolutely fine. She had to stay in hospital for 3 weeks to establish feeding etc but was then allowed home. So've you had the steroids yesterday. If so, that will help a lot if you go into labour.

Thanks Doozle

Really wanted to breastfeed exclusively for a couple of months but aslong as babys home asap I suppose I shouldnt get too hung up on that.

No probs, keep us posted on what happens. They were very very encouraging with breastfeeding for prems so if you do go into labour don't worry, they'll do everything they can to help you with this.

They should offer to show you round SCBU now (where prems are cared for) if they think labour is immiment. Have they offered this? It's very helpful so that it's not a completely alien environmen should the baby be born early.

Rosalind1079 · 26/01/2009 11:26

No not offered as yet but only went in yesterday...going back for tests a scan and the other steroid injection at 3.30pm.

Ment to be in work for atleast another month too

Maybe they don't think you will go into labour that quickly, see what they say today. I'd ask them right out what they think in terms of you going into labour soon.

Things don't necessarily move that quickly. ie. my waters broke at 31 weeks but I didn't go into labour for another 2.5 weeks. See what I mean? So could be that you'll be even longer and make it all the way to term.

Don't worry about work though, they come last in the list of priorities!

Hello, just wondering how you are - is everything ok?

Rosalind1079 · 27/01/2009 21:26

Hi Doozle, Thanks for thinking of us

Had my second steroid jab yesterday, bloods done, monitored and an extra scan yay! The baby whether it be a boy or girl is looking HUGE haha. Im a little scared of it, one of the pics she gave us it has its mouth open n its massive. Its 4lb 12oz now and technically could have another 10wks in there eeek!!

Im really pleased its ahead in growth a big weight off both of our minds, but I cant help feeling a little gutted at the prospect of carrying till APRIL when they panicked us into thinking a january birth was on the cards

Well babys health comes first, mummy will just have to be patient!!

Glad you are ok Rosalind. That's a good weight, DD was 4lb 5 when born. Fingers crossed all stays put now.
