When did you get your scan?

Went to the doctor almost a month ago, who estimated I was 10+2 based on my last period, meaning I am 14+0 today. Got my scan date and it is not until 20 Feb, meaning I will be 18 weeks! Okay, I know I am probably 2 weeks less than the doctor's estimate, but I thought the scan was supposed to be at 12 weeks. Did anyone else wait this long?

The thing is, I am holding off telling people until I've had the scan and know everything is okay, but I think I already look pregnant and I'm sure that I will definitely be showing by the time the scan comes round. Aaaaaahhhhhhhh!!!

That can't be right! You are meant to of had the test by the time you are 14 weeks and is normaly done at 12 weeks. You should call the midwife and see if they can change the date.

sorry I said test I meant scan

That's odd. You'll be too late to do the nuchal fold (12-13 wks I think) and too early to do the anomoly scan. (20 weeks). Have you spoken to a midwife?

RedOnHerHead · 24/01/2009 16:59

I was showing both times by 18 weeks
On my 1st pregnancy I had dating scan at "12" weeks, which dated me at 10+5 weeks, then an anomaly scan at about 19weeks
On my second pregnancy, again had dating scan at "12" weeks, which put me at 12+1 and then again at 21weeks

RedOnHerHead · 24/01/2009 17:00

We don't have the nuchal fold here, they just use it for dating at 12weeks

clarabelleM · 24/01/2009 17:02

No, haven't spoken to a midwife- just said in the letter that one would contact me prior to the scan, so don't know who it would be or how to contact her.

Where are you? You should have seen a midwife by now as well. It's all a bit odd.

SheWillBeLoved · 24/01/2009 17:04

Had my 12 week scan when I was 11+3 according to my dates, but 10+5 according to measurements. 20 week scan is booked for the day when I am exactly 20 weeks going by the last scan.

Is there no way you can call the hospital and ask if they can squeeze you in on a cancellation within the next week or so? Waiting until 18 weeks for your first scan is ridiculous.

clarabelleM · 24/01/2009 17:07

Glasgow. I've been phoning the docs for a couple of weeks now as I was expecting to get the letter ages ago. They just said it was outside their control, and that the scan is "not necessarily" done at 12 weeks.

Having said that, it turns out they didn't refer me until the 9 Jan even though I went to see them on 29 Dec. When I asked why it took so long, they said it was because of the holiday period. I mean, wtf? Two days holiday causes them to delay referring me for almost 2 weeks?

Thanks for your advice, will phone on Monday to see if I can get an earlier appointment.

Similar thing happened to me.

Hadn't seen midwife prior to receiving letter and scan would've have when I was 16 weeks. I called hospital and they gave me a choice of earlier dates. Funny thing is dating scan put me a week ahead so I would actually have been 17 weeks at the inital date of scan.

Thought by going to see GP at 5 weeks then 8 weeks would have given them plenty of time to sort it.

The hospital were very accommodating.

This thread has worried me, can I book my own first scan with the hospital as my midwife can't see me until I am 12 Wks and I assume that they won't even try to book the first scan until I go for this inital appt? If I can't do you think it is worth hassling the midwife to ask her to book the appt before I go and see her so I def get the scan around 12 wks?

Thnx
