Thrush type infection at 37 weeks

Hi, I'm 37 weeks and for the past couple of weeks have had a very itchy thrush type thing. I say thrush type as it's not actually in the vagina, just all around the 'surrounding area'. Have been using a steroid/antifungal cream from the doctor, but it doesn't seem to be helping a great deal and also I've got cold feet about using it since reading that one of the side effects could be thinning of the skin - not ideal when you're about to give birth! Just wondering whether anyone else has had this and has any suggestions. TIA

Bumping for you.

Not sure if it will help but when i was pregnant (discovered it before but was a godsend!) i used a gel called biofem active gel, you can get it in boots and its suitable for pregnancy. Really helped me to stay off stronger creams.

Good luck with the little one.

Hi did your doctor examine you or take a swab? If not it's possible you don't have thrush.

It may be that you do have thrush in your vagina and it is just getting reinfected so you may need a pessary?

It is the steriod which can thin the skin, but this would be over a much longer period than 2 weeks look at the bit on side effects .

I have just been treated with a pessary for thrush and my doc said if not cleared up in a week to come back for an exam (he did not look just asked for a description). If it was/is thrush I think it has presented differently from the times I have had it outside of pregnancy IYSWIM. I'm also 37 weeks.

Hope you are feeling better soon

Hi, yes doctor did both examine and take a swab - the swab came back as 'no infection' so presumably this means it's not thrush? Also, since the actual vagina is the only bit not affected and there is no discharge this makes me think it's not thrush. All a bit of a puzzle! Thanks for the advice anyway - I will try to speak to the doctor tomorrow and see if she has any more ideas.

Oh dear - have spoken to doctor and she had nothing to suggest other than ask the midwife - not much help as it was her who directed me to the doctor in the first place! Don't suppose anyone else has any ideas? TIA
