Hi, I'm about 8.5wks pregnant and since yesterday afternoon there has been brownish blood when I wipe myself. I rang NHS Direct last night and they got my Dr to call me, he said he thought it was probably just my womb clearing out in prep, but to call back this morning if it was no lighter.

I went to the Dr this morning and they've got me a scan at the EPU tomorrow afternoon. I had a dating scan at 6.5wks and there was a heartbeat but I'm now so scared I don't know where to put myself. My SIL says I should just go down to casualty but I don't know if I'm fussing over nothing given that 25% of people get bleeding in the first trimester. This is my first baby. Is there anyone out there who has been through the same thing? xx

I have no experience of this but didnt want you to o unanswered. I imagine you are really worried and I fully understand why. I am not sure whether casualty is the best place to be right now. Try and stay calm until tomorrow afternoon when they can tell you what is happening. I know that is easier said than done.

I hope its all OK for you.

Hi Lalli,

I had this bleeding at 4.5 and about 8.5 weeks. I'm told that brown blood is almost always OK, it's old and that a bit of bleeding around the time your period would have been, can be due to your hormones. If it's bright red blood or accompanied by strong cramps then is more likely to be a problem.

For me there was pinky blood for a day or so, then brown, then it went a day later. Am now 15.5 weeks and everything fine. I think it's very common. Conversely, when I had a mmc there was no blood....

Try not to worry too much (I know it's hard and scary) you'll know tomorrow and chances are everything will be fine. hugs

I had bleeding from 5 to 11 weeks - it's good that you have already seen a heartbeat. I wouldn't go to casualty unless the bleeding gets much heavier, good luck for tomorrow. x

I've had brown blood with all of my m/c but I would say that having seen a hb your chances of everything being ok are good Also with ds I had pinky brown blood at 5 weeks, 7 weeks and 11 weeks and he is now 4

Oh Lalli, so sorry to hear that. Thinking of you. xx

Haribosmummy · 21/01/2009 18:35

Oh, Lalli, I am so very sorry.

ladylush · 21/01/2009 19:17

So sorry Lalli Take good care of yourself. I was reading another thread yesterday where a woman said she wished they wouldn't keep telling women brown blood is ok as it's not true and falsely raises hopes.

you poor thing lalli, so sorry to hear that, my thoughts & hugs are with you x
