Lactulose when pregnant

Has anyone used lactulose to ease chronic constipation. I am 23 weeks pregnant and the lady in Boots said it was fine. I have heard that some laxatives can cause premature labour, anyone had experience of lactulose? I don't want to take it if there is any risk.
Thanks
