Send for lulu!

Just be there for her and get her what she wants.

don't panic
where is she planning on having the baby?

Blimey. Is she supposed to be staying at your house and having the baby, or is she planning a hospital delivery i.e. have the midwives/hospital been informed.

Or are you looking more for advice on helping her in early stages of labour?

My recommendations if the latter would be to encourage her to keep mobile, but if very early on and she needs a rest, try and get her to relax and preferably sleep. If contractions well established and things are happening, then having a circuit of things to occupy her might help take her mind off the contractions. For example, leaning against a door, rocking hips for a while. Then all fours rocking. Then a little wander round the house. Then maybe climb the stairs and come back down. Having a rotation, and a plan of things to do to take your mind off it can help (it did with ds).

Have her waters gone? If not, could she have a bath? Or a shower?

How close are her contractions?

Thank-you for your replies last night, she ended up going to hospital in an ambulance shortly after I posted as she was in a lot of pain & had some bleeding.

She is now home, thankfully without having given birth just yet. Hopefully we'll not have a scare like last night again until the baby is actually due
