anyone know if this is a problem? I could call NHS Direct I know, but I'm on nights and desperate to get to bed and sleep so was hoping for a quick answer. Does anyone have any experience? I'm only 5 weeks gone, just found out a friends ds has it, I've had it before as a child, and ds had it about 6 months ago, so I've been exposed recently, and didn't get it then so assumed I was immune. Does that mean the baby's ok?

If you had it as a child, then you should be immune.

NorktasticNinja · 14/01/2009 11:21

IIRC (and I'm pretty sure I do) then as long as you have had chicken pox already there is no problem.

Sunflower100 · 14/01/2009 11:27

I've just been in the same situation - if you are immune (and sounds as though you are) then your baby will be protected too.

CoteDAzur · 14/01/2009 11:29

If you had it as a child, you are immune & your baby's OK.

If you had it as a child you should be immune. If you are unsure or didn't have it as a child then get in touch with your GP and they can check your immunity and if you are not immune you can get a protective immunoglobulin injection...I think within 3 daysish.

I'm fairly sure I had it as a child, those were the days of chicken pox parties, and I remember my mum telling me how bad I was at scratching continuously. In fact I've got a couple of scars so I must have had it, and the fact that I didn't get it when ds had it 6 months ago must mean that I'm immune doesn't it?

I shall sleep a little easier now ladies, thank you x

sleep well

Did they test your immunity on your booking bloods? If not and you are still worried they can test your booking blood (if they still have it- they still had mine at 25 weeks) or take more blood and get results to you within a day.

I haven't had my booking in appt yet, I've only just found out i'm pg.... I guess they should have a record if they tested my immunity when I was pg with ds. Will ask my gp on Monday when I see him to tell him I'm pg.
